I made this Perceptor wallpaper back when I heard about Tesla 2.0. To say I am stoked is an understatement.

I gotta be honest, FansToys has ruined this hobby for me. The frantic rush to preorder something that was overpriced before it even has a chance to be scalped is the same reason I don't deal with TicketMaster or LiveNation. They undoubtedly make the best of everything, but a "hunt" to collect something rare is supposed to happen to toys you weren't around for, not things that are brand new. It's like an abusive relationship anymore. All I see in my MP collection are holes not worth the disappointment to fill. Plus I CAN afford this stuff but just feel like a gutter slut coughing up a quarter-thousand bucks for every box of cheap plastic parts assembled by sweatshop workers... yeah yeah, what the market will bear etc, but a very small number of people are making stupid money off this and we're part of that problem.

Depressing thing is, it really was my only hobby. Without it I'm only the sum of my responsibilities. At least I have the V1 of Tesla, maybe I should try to sell him before the gen pop catches wind of this guy.

Thanks to this thread I was able to get a pre-order in at Bombusbee, but like the others I feel like my time w/ this hobby is coming to an end. I used to think $120-160 for a Sovereign-like figure was steep back when I first started collecting. Now it's twice that amount and you have to pre-order to get even that. At least I used to be able to wait until a figure actually released and then check out reviews before deciding to buy a Fanstoys figure.

Perceptor has always been one of my favorite characters, right up there with the likes of Prime and Grimlock. I've always felt he was underappreciated compared to what he brought the table, probably because he wasn't enough of a badass fighter.

Also, he was pretty much the only character who transitioned from pre-movie, to the movie itself, to post-movie without skipping a beat. Other characters died, changed form, became comic relief, became ghosts, became much less prominent, or just vanished, but Perceptor apparently missed the memo because his role, personality, and prominence was completely unaffected and he just rolled right along through that whole shakeup like nothing happened.

Plus...I've always loved the "roleplay" alt modes in G1. Megatron, Shockwave, Soundwave, Blaster, Reflector, and Perceptor...I wish we still got TFs like that nowadays. So refreshing to mix it up with some non-Vehicles/Beasts.

Fuck them for making it cost so much and be so hard to get, but he's one of a small handful I still need for the collection so whatever. Still need a Blaster, he'll probably cost $400.

I assume that pencil screenshot is from when they were on Brobdingnag, the planet with the giant aliens. In that case, you might find that MST's Perceptor is a better fit for a pencil shot since MST's legends line, titled Brobdingnag, is pretty much in scale to us as the transformers were to the Brobdingnagians.

What sucks about these high prices is they are just placeholders for the eventual TT MP even if it takes them millennia to release it.

Collecting FansToys and Takara MP's is pretty much all I collect. Throw in a few others occasionally from XTB or DX9 if I like them.
So yeah, having to go to sleep/work/ normal activity and miss the window is tedious.

That said, I don't think it's really that bad. Sure there is a mad rush, but the pre orders seen to be put up in batches. If you are US based, bombusbee seems to be the go to supplier at the moment.
There are Chinese sites with pre orders still available also. Plus there are in fact some good people on here who will help you out sourcing stuff if needed.

I believe there is still a strong collecting community of like minded people, and it hasn't been totally overtaken with bots/scalpers and greedy opportunists.

I have other passions like a small collection of vintage Starwars/Transformers that I add too occasionally. And of course gaming helps take your mind off it. But you can't even get away from it there! SeriesX still pretty much out of stock all the time, scooped up by scalpers.

Failing that I go for a long run, they can't take that away from me, oh wait covid.

This is true. Lots of people complain but stuff still sells out pretty quick, so people are either a lot richer than they admit, or are starting to not eat/pay bills to get their fix. LOL.

Don't forget there is a new player in town that should give FT something to worry about. This sudden flurry of releases could be a reaction to possible future competition.
FT pretty much have the market to themselves at the moment, so let's hope more competition levels demand a bit.

Why are the chest/microscope stage and adjustment dials on his arms gold?

Aside from that detail, his face being white instead of gray, and the sculpt of the gun being compromised for a sniper rifle gimmick I dgaf about, this looks pretty awesome. They definitely nailed the sculpt. The new style they're using for fingers looks great as well.

    FT 2019-2021

Hoodlum - Their weakest figure but still way better looking than the Takara version

Phoenix - Really cool but showing a little age

    Roadking - Amazing

    Maverick- Amazing

    Spoiler - Amazing

    Jabber- Great sculpt, horrible transformation

    Goose - Amazing

Sheridan - Cool figure but had some QC issues that FT offered a fix for. Fix was incorporated into later waves.

    Iceman - Amazing

    Magnum - Amazing

    Hunk - Amazing

    Dunerider - Amazing

Thomas - Amazing, though had a QC issue with misaligned knee ratchets.

    Smokey - Amazing

    Spindrift 2.0 - Amazing

    Tesla 2.0 - Looks amazing

Rig - Looks amazing (fight me bitches)

    Chomp - Looks amazing

    Takara G1 toon MP 2019-2021

Optimus 3.0 - Great from the front but horrible profile with terrible backpack

    Bumblebee 2.0 - See Optimus 3.0

Hound - Amazing...except it crumbles due to shitty plastic. Takara never offered replacements and has yet to reissue it with better plastic.

Arcee - An abomination in the eyes of God.

    Starscream 2.0 - See Optimus 3.0 and Bumblebee 2.0

Yeah I don't really think most of Fanstoys latest figures have much to worry about from Takara. Takara just doesn't have the output or consistency to compare.

Even worse, things that aren't even PRODUCED YET, is literally a ticket to have a (inexistent) figure, that's called made-to-order, a common thing in +18 japanese figures because they're literally made-to-order, you can pre-order for days, instead of a "stock limit" for something that doesn't even EXIST, but FansToys? If they want to be honest they should say "OUR STUFF IS MADE-TO-ORDER NOW SO WE'LL GET ENOUGH PRE-ORDERS IN 5 DAYS AND WE'LL START THE PRODUCTION" but MafiaToys gets more money saying "MY FIGURES ARE SUPER LIMITED NOW PAY DOUBLE!"

Applies equally to both, so that part's a wash. Would've mentioned it if I was comparing either of them to, say, Transform Element or Maketoys.
