Well, they could do that (titan class) and make it the size of a commander… I’d be ok with that so long as he can combine with a Megatron.

Aren't they, though? EVERYTHING has been getting like 20% more expensive.

It might lead to less "buy 10 shitty things" and more "buy 3 really good things." If that's the way buying patterns are shifting, we can look forward to more expensive but better toys. (Which is kind of what's already been happening)

Hasui mentioned a "Big Ticket Item" he wasn't allowed to mention yet. Without derailing the thread, I wonder what it could be? Since we already know about MP Raiden, I wonder if he's the designer for the new Generations Menasor?

The interview was a pleasant read. It's insane how good this figure turned out with a smaller budget than Omega Supreme.

Idk, I just haven’t seen actual improvement. Improvement in stuff like articulation and engineering, maybe. But Actually important improvements to consumers/kids like playability, size and survivability have gone way down. I mean ffs they are making important joints out of thin CLEAR brittle plastic. Remember, parents won’t see a $50 deluxe and go “look at all the extras and articulation it has”. They’ll say “$50 for that?that’s too expensive, buy something else”. People forget that this is a Kid’s line first and foremost.

Interview is from July 2020 according to the headline, so I gotta assume Hasui is talking about either Rodimus Prime or the Ark.

This was a great read. Thanks for posting it. I love getting a look behind the curtain.

Was an interview like this done for Trypticon? That\'s a story I want to hear.

I love the part where he says, "F that!".

he might have said "F that" but i would like to see a leader-sized Scorponok at some point for us Marvel fans. It'd compliment Powermaster Optimus Prime nicely

I'd be ok with it just being the Titan toy downsized, with the base mode features removed and the Headmaster gimmick simplified to a single Headmaster.

Yeah I also thought the same, if the Ark had the same budget constraints that would explain some design choices like the size, the hands or the static turrets.

    Amazing.

Scorponok is my favorite Titan so far, and the fact he had such a limited budget makes him even more awesome because of how good he is despite the budget cuts that were made to him.

I think both sides deserve credit (in general). It's easy to minimize Hasbro's contributions because they're always the "budget bad guys" but I would argue that (a) without Hasbro, Takara would have turned the franchise into a super small niche line and (b) not every fan favorite choice comes from Takara.

Likewise. I do think they missed an opportunity I do a liter sized scorponok in the prime Wars Trilogy, that would be an appropriate size for Marvel scorponok even at The Siege scale.

Hasbro says they watch the boards. The more we talk about Marvel Scorponok and Max (and Marvel colored characters period) the more likely we may get something.

It looks like Figure King 230 had an interview with Designer Shogo Hasui all about Trypticon. Was that ever translated? Google isn’t being helpful.

Must’ve been the ark at the time, no wonder it seems half baked too many projects to work on.

Thank you for posting this translated interview!

Scorponok is one of the few toys I have from my childhood that is still around today. I just got all the gushing out of my system in another thread, but whether he's kitted out the wazoo or stock, I think Scorponok is a worthwhile update to the old, honking G1 version. That it ended up as good as it is despite budget cuts is impressive, even if others don't care to understand that.

Now if only I could fit him more easily into my Detolf with all the DNA armaments on him... :lol
