Bingo. Cheating was all over the place in the movie. (Take a look at the magical Frenzy head into cell phone transformation) They could have done the same thing with any other aesthetic. I didn't want to see G1 toys, or BW CGI on the screen, but something a little easier to follow would have been nice. Actually, I think covering up alot of the innards would have helped. The group of people I went with said the movie was enjoyable, but they couldn't tell what they were looking at when the robots were on screen, especially the fight scenes. I just got the feeling ILM only knows how to make robots, one way, and they just shoehorned the Transformers into SW Prequel designs. Hopefully the sequel will have easier to follow designs. At this point, I personally just want the characters to actually be characters, regardless of what they look like.
The autor of this thread is covert by reason... But Michael "Nose Sound" Bay and his friends killed the great G1 designs. I really hated those skinny-bug-eyed-Bay robots. Wasn´t a worty 20 year await. Not even close of this. Transformers deserved a better crew to make a Movie. This is my personal opinion. If someone enjoyed the Movie designs, I respect that.
As it stands, the designs in the movie try their best to duplicate the movement of muscle. Look at the bots when they move, it shows the stress and strain of their "muscles" when they jump/roll etc. More simplistic designs would rob them of that.
If I were a giant robot (and I'm not), I wouldn't care that people could see my "muscles", I'd be much more concerned about them being well protected with body armor. LOL!
TRANSFORMERS II: PUMPING IRON " When I am transforming, it is like I am cu#@ing! I am Cu#@ing all day!"
If at least the robots FACES were more like the G1 characters... But the problem is the faces don´t tell nothing... Zero expression... Zero feeling... Zero soul... And the Decepticons faces were completely destroyed... Starscream was total destroyed...
IMO you're not sensitive enough. Prime and Bumblebee had so much feeling/soul/whatever in all their expressions. The rest of the cast is arguable because they don't get screentime in the first place.
Well, G1 Prime's face was hardly expressive. Now that guy had a real poker face. The movie design was a vast improvement in that respect. And there wasn't really all that much emotion carried in the other G1 faces to be honest. A little yes, but the eyes were always a little soulless.
Now you pushed the meaning of "expressive" a little hard... But honestly, I think this discussion is pointless. Opinion is like underwear. Each person has your own.
Prime and Bumblebee... LOL... Remember the reason why they gave Prime a mouth? So that he could emote... right? But what about Bumblebee?
Good point. But I´m really tired about this conversation... Wathever Michael "Nose sound" Bay and this fellas show in TF2 most of people will simply love it, no matter what happens with these characters... Someday they´ll decide to add clothes on them because they simply decided to do this way. And even so most of people will love it.
Yes, it's just as true that some people will like/love whatever is placed in front of them as when people will dislike/hate everything but their own sacred cow... but even if you dislike the final placement of gears, panels, impossible transformations, etc (kinda like me) you still have to admire the amount of detail the movie characters have (kinda like me).
