Is the Maverick going to replace the Ranger?

As an aside, we're not getting the Maverick in Australia. Supposedly because it's LHD only at this stage.

No. It sounds like Ford will have 3 trucks available concurrently with an all new Ranger in the next couple of years as well.

This... is an ugly Alfa Romeo (which, in itself, is a rarity).

Nope. The Ranger is also getting an update soon as well, and the USA may finally be getting a Ranger Raptor too

Ford is covering the truck line-up the same way they have covered the SUV line-up - one for every class, to fit all your needs. The Maverick should be the one that fits most people's needs, given that an F-150 is enormous, and the Ranger is still a big vehicle. Taking anything larger than a Ranger in many NA cities/suburbs requires some finesse/experience/luck/little traffic for many people.

I've kind of thought of the smaller trucks as a "unboxed minivan". Please, hear me out. Thing is, the Maverick's bed is still rather short. You'd need to open the bed up or get ready to tie things down if you plan on moving anything long. FWD isn't an issue as long as you don't lug a ton of stuff (and you can't because of said bed). But it's all uncovered. You could probably haul most of the same stuff in a minivan, most of the time, and keep the weather off of it. I agree that the minivan can't muck about much, but then again, neither will 95% of the Mavericks/Rangers/F-150s in personal use.

What's considered short these days? My 2001 Lightning has a short box but it's still 6.5 ft. The bed helped us immensely when we moved into our house, not to mention all the runs we make to the compost in the fall, dumping leaves.

Most of these modern crew cab short short box pickups have a 4’ or 5’ bed. I think for the Maverick, it’s a 4’ bed.

4.5’ actually. I believe it’s almost exactly 54-55 inches with the tailgate closed. Probably about 5.5’ to 6’ with the tailgate down

Smaller vehicles, in general, are what we need. I'd buy this in a heart beat, with manual transmission, please.

How does that even get any reasonable cooling to the front brakes?

GT vs GT40 - it was never going to be in doubt who was going to take that one. It's still pretty cool, though. The in-car footage of the GT40 is awesome. Its driver is as cool as a cucumber.

Is the new Ford F-150 Lightning the ultimate electric pickup?

Boooooooo. Not a REAL Lightning! I get it though, the name definitely fits and I'm sure it'll be a big seller for Ford. They can call it whatever they like obviously but the purists probably would've liked it called EV F150 or something. Even if they'd made it an EV but offered a performance street truck version that woulda been cool. I know for certain I'll be keeping mine though.
