Ghostbusters 2016, TLJ, Terminator Dark Fate off the top of my head. They are notable because the directors made the first move to presumptively attack anyone criticizing the changes as trolls, etc.

Beside, I'm skeptical of the movie because they have all been awful to one degree or another and recent Hollywood is incapable of making something decent. Bumblebee was a fluke in my opinion, as were a few other recent movies. When all Transformers movies are awful except the one that the studio seemingly didn't have much faith in and it turns out okay only for the studio to want to make it go back to big blockbuster its hard to not think what elements made Bumblebee decent will be missing in the next one because they learned the wrong lesson.

Bumblebee was good because it wasn't a big budget loud, obnoxious attempt at a mega blockbuster. It was good in spite of its origin.

I came off as snooty, I apologize.
I guess in recent years, the 2 worst movies I've seen had that Charlie actress in it. I realize most of it is the writing and director's fault, but anything Charlie has now left a bitter cringe in my mouth.

    Anyway, Sorry Dave!

I'm worried the 'lesson' they got from Bumblebee was "Just add more GEEWUN" and it will revert back to being as bad (or worse!) Bayformers. Rather than learn the lessons of:
    • Less is More: Bee has a lot less robots and more grounded action than some mega battle scenes that make no sense.
    • Have Heart: Making the humans not-awful help the movie and story.
    • Respect the Source Material: At times, Bumblebee feels like a Marvel comic or Sunbow G1 episode centered on Bee and a human. It has a certain saturday morning cartoon adventure flair.
But instead the only lesson they may have learned is 'make it look like G1 and add '80/'90 memberberries nostalgia'. Which wasn't why Bumblebee was the only good live action TF movie.

It does make me wonder, will people see it just for G1 designs? I am still optimistic about this film.

We need another Indiana Jones movie like we need more Star Wars or crappy Marvel movies, which is to say not at all, but since we can’t control that the least we can do is let the people making them do what they do best and make movies. Expectations are one thing, but if that one guy thought he could make a better movie than James fucking Mangold I’d love to see him try.

So you think because fans can bitch and moan online and call it “constructive” they should be catered to? :lol  The second studios start listening to fans and letting them decide how shit goes instead of the people writing and directing is the second quality takes a fucking nosedive and we get the kind of dumbass fanservice bullshit we get from Star Wars and the MCU now. And who says you have to “blindly accept”? Why don’t you just ignore the movies you don’t like? The only person forcing you to watch these movies is YOU, you can stop whenever you want.

Almost every instance of creator harassment came from psychotic fans mad that their fan fiction wasn’t made and instead the person hired told the story they wanted because none of these fans understand how making fucking movies works. Sooooooo sorry Disney didn’t hire “the fans” to make their own Star Wars 7 where there’s no women except for Leia and Luke shoots lasers from his eyes, but nobody aside from “the fans” would fucking watch that.

what the fuck does any of this have to do with Kevin Smith and his (admittedly really cool looking) MOTU show

I’ll admit I don’t know anything about the Terminator backlash but considering that the other two examples you picked were explicitly racist and sexist fans harassing and sending death threats to the people making those movies I’ll just assume it was fans mad over dumb bullshit again. I will give you Ghostbusters to a degree, as I think the reshoots to directly respond to the trolls probably ended up making that movie a lot worse, but that comes down more to Paul Feig being untalented more than anything. For the record, TLJ is actually great despite what “fans” say and Terminator Dark Fate kicks ass even if it IS just a remake of T2.

Man what two movies of hers have you seen lol she usually lands good roles, what about that True Grit remake? The Edge of Seventeen? But fair enough, no need to apologize

So you want yet another bayhem then?

Ah, the classic "let's see you do better" fallacy.

So who is it "catered" to then?

I find it funny how you don't offer a legit example of this.

So by that logic, if someone like me or Suboptimal says something you don't like, you should ignore it. Right?

That's not an example. That's a blank statement

Sounds more like a strawman to me.

You did say you wanted a legit example, right?

Again, where are the examples? And even if there were legit ones, they're likely a minority.

That's your opinion, you're allowed to like them for any legit reason, which is subjective. Same way anyone are allowed not to for any good reason they may have.

With Last Jedi, if not the trilogy overall, you still have to admit they didn't plan out things properly. Even Abrams admitted this.
A dull remake of T2 isn't exactly what I think of if ever I think of 'kick arse'.

The idea that people didn't like Star Wars 7 because it had a female lead is RIDICULOUS. People wanted this, I wanted a female jedi as lead too. The big complaint for 7 is that it's a knockoff of A New Hope and Rey was reduced to a non character which is a big fuck you to the actress and the people. The only character from the ST that had some sort of character arc was Kylo Ren, and even that was half assed. People hate the sequels because they are nostalgia driven films that have nothing original, funny because that's what they wanted from the prequels and when it was something else they hated them. In rest, they are well made films, including Star Wars 7, that one is made to be a good movie, but it's missing something called originality. I cannot believe that after so many years people still think Rey is hated because she is female and not because she is an awful character, the writing is to blame here.

And let’s not get started on Rise of Skywalker.

Anyway, back to topic at hand, I’m still curious about the cast for this and how they’ll go.

Setting the new film in the 1990s is a pretty weird and random idea.

Transformers originated in the 1980s, so you can kind of understand a Bumblebee movie, a new live-action type of origin story being set in that time period. I don't get why you would do a new Transformers movie in the 1990s though. It doesn't make sense.

Bumblebee was specifically set around 1987, so...

Yeah, I'm actually not surprised that a follow-up to BB would be set in the early 1990s. With a 2022 release date, it'll be four years since the last movie came out as it is, and setting a sequel roughly as much time narratively since the previous film's events as has passed in real-time between the two releases isn't exactly uncommon.

Also, Hollywood loves its "Five Years Later" trope. From GB2 all the way to Endgame and who knows how many other movies around and between.

Is it that weird though? 5 years gap doesn't sound that odd to me. Perhaps it required by the narrative. Maybe they wanted to show the Autobots having an established base. I wouldn't have minded a film taking place in the '80s but honestly, '80s has been done to death. It's actually smart for Paramount to capitalize on the '90s nostalgia. Hollywood is going to do it anyways so might as well get your foot in door so it doesn't feel like following the bandwagon.

Doesn't matter, every Terminator movie after 2 is shit. Same with Alien, even if I did personally sort of love the first AVP but I wouldn't really say its at the same level of Alien 1, 2 and the first Predator.
