This is too easy The ROTF Bruticus Maximus combined mode head is riveted in place, whereas the 2007 movie Offroad Ironhide head was screwed in. But, the rivet hole is only a smidge too small and, after a quick drilling, the neck stump fits perfectly. Plus, the Tamiya X-4 Blue paint is a near perfect match, except for the metal flake on Offroad Ironhide (metal flake which was also on the original Clench toy, albeit with much larger flakes). Here he is with my POTP Pyro from Inferno. Yes, everyone and their mom has done this, and no I wasn't the first. Also, I have to give a shout out to BattleGurijiba for the wonderful digibash they made! Thanks again, Gurijiba! More to come! As you well know, this guys needs some ungodly neon paint. I also have some ideas for replicating the original toy's stickers I can't wait to try.
This is brilliant, yeah bro get some color on it, maybe consider a Pyro from SS Sentinel if you wanna keep a similar aesthetic
I wonder how well that craft paint that has glitter in it would work on this task - I know there's a "super glittery" and a "less glittery" option... maybe decant some and mix it into the Tamiya?
That looks great so far! You made a very smart mold choice. Can’t wait to see the finished thing! Like how your Pyro looks as well.
Now do this with Studio Series... No but seriously, looking forward to future updates and projects! The new head and digibash looks promising!
Cheeky sneak peak of vehicle mode Not done, but the green windows are something else. They should look more at home with the lightning bolts and caution stripes. I also removed the autobot symbol on the tailgate and painted in some details like the tail lights, rear bumper, and rims. The copper grille is a treat though
Dammit. You've infected me. Now I've got eBay alerts for Offroad Ironhide, and I've already bought an Energon Barricade so I can cannibalize the head. You dastardly fiend! (shakes fist)
Hey, how did you remove the Autobot symbol molded into the back? Maybe sanded it down and painted it over with Tamiya blue? Annnnnd you say you have a way to replicate the lightning bolts and such? You know I'm gonna wanna know how to do that...!
Yes, I disassembled the shins, filed off the autobot symbol, puttied, sanded, and panted with the Tamiya blue pictured in the first post. The result is a not metallic strip in the middle of the tailgate, but it is hardly noticeable. Be careful not to lose parts taking apart the shins, specifically the gear wheel attached to the toes. There is a small, grey, plastic rectangle held in place by it that keeps his feet from collapsing in robot mode. I have Reprolabels for G1 Superion (Skydive, really, but they only sell them as a set) for the lightning bolts and for a GI Joe Earthquake vehicle (1992) for the hazard stripes. Here are the item number you can copy and paste into the search bar on Toyhax.com G1 Superion - TH1091 Earthquake Vehicle (1992) - 91727 I don't know how well anything will fit since I won't be applying stickers until after painting, and I need to order the magenta. This won't be for a long time, you might just get ahead of me. One last note, Ironhide has a very slouched stature, due to his waist transformation. If you attach the head loosely, you can give the neck joint the slack to pop out a tiny bit and have him look straight ahead rather than slightly down. Here's what I mean: Normal placement Popped up Popped up, the neck peg and bottom of the head are visible, and would have to be painted. The good news is that the head fits perfectly for transformation when you fold the ears in. Best of luck!
Progress! I've only got the first coat of pink on, so it will be more vibrant and less streaky, but look at it! It's really starting to feel like a Clench toy now, and I was too excited to wait until all the paint is done to share it. Still not sure what to do about the feet or cannons paint-wise. Thoughts?
