I know it has strayed from this but the original masterpiece was supposed to be realistic alt mode with toon looking bot mode

Sorry if the pictures a large. I haven't been following the thread much, so not sure if anyone has posted any sort of edits yet. I did an edit of the face/head to see what it would look like with some tweaks. I changed the proportions of most of the face/helmet which was difficult because I basically had to repaint a lot of it pixel by pixel lol. I think its wider than the original so you might need some kind of transforming mechanic where the ears collapse into the the head to make it fit for transformation or something.

By that logic, I'd say it fails horribly. MP-52's wings, nose, canopy, tailfins, and tailplanes are are quite accurate to the real thing, down to the rivets and panel lines. The toon is not---the wings are the most obviously "not like the real thing" aspect. If the goal is to be toon-based in alt-mode, then it needs a completely different set of wings for starters, and revisions to a lot of other parts.

The toon still flattened the bottom out a lot better than MP-52 does, though.

Is there a ninja digibasher on this forum that can piece DS-01 from bot mode to jet? I want to know if it will transform into a jet or a toaster oven!

I see your point, but I meant the toon aesthetic (I also wrote "follow", not "copy"). We all know that none of any MP is 100% accurate to the cartoon in 100% of screen appearances, but they have details that remind us of those characters.
And about the underside of Starscream jet, it's like the animator's modification intention, and MP-52 designer seems to respect that.

Yes it used to be, but I think they changed the direction, period. We all see that at least from MP33 when they start using toon details for alt modes (sorry if it's even sooner, I don't collect full official MPs :)  ), and that remains for their OP, Bee & Hound.
I know they aren't perfect, but we can see their intention. MP53 Skid has real life alt mode, maybe they are changing their direction again?

And overall, it all comes down to personal preferences. The company chooses a direction, unfortunately it can not satisfy everybody.

Yes, it's definitely not perfect. Hopefully this DS version can do better.

I think DS will struggle not to do better than TT on alt mode flatness! Easily the worst aspect of MP-52. At least it looks toon accurate I tell myself, but it's a consolation prize. Really wish TT could have done something like DS - used a large chunk of the real canopy for bot mode, just with the small faux end pieces top and bottom to give the right shape and size for bot mode. Then you don't have to carry around two full canopies and that cover panel. It's disappointing to see most of the entire torso and crotch completely unbroken on the underside of the jet. I'll miss the genius of OG MP-3 where the chest vents fold up behind the intakes creating almost perfectly the geometry of the real F-15 intakes.

Have you seen how the Newage seekers transform? The chest halves fold under the cockpit to become part of the canopy, it's a brilliant move.

I have yes - it's very clever. In fact I love what's going on in Legends right now, but aren't about to start a new collection! :)

Dangit! I was watching this last night, really interesting to watch his process, but I had to stop halfway through because I needed to go to sleep. Got up this morning to finish it but it's been pulled from YouTube.

Hmmm that's really odd. Will see if I can find out why. Hasbro cease and desist?? Surely not!

Colour changes aside, how they fold the tail fins on the leg, the back of the legs, the chest area, waist swivel, abcrunch, the rear rotating panel on the leg and the back itself, hip skirt is the same, and it has the same tab on the inner leg, albeit on the opposing side. While certainly they have been redesigned to an extend to accommodate the MP scale and stuff needed, to my eyes, there are clear cues. I dont under any circumstances call this bad or anything else. Even if it was an 100% the same design with just articulated hands I would have been on that cruise still.

Well...Ask 10 doctors and they will give you ten different opinions on what ails you. Ask 10 fans about what masterpiece was about and you will get 12 opinions.

Mp 47 is a contender if you get the ko.

I love a good David Hingtgen post because you're pedantic in all the right ways and you back it up with an impressive set of vehicle knowledge, especially planes (I mean this post in particular was about toon but still).

Whenever I see someone say they don't buy legends because they're not starting a new collection, it makes me sad. I mean I rejoice for your wallet, but I'm sad at just how much you're missing out - modern legends figures are just plain glorious!

I'll have to give it a look. Again, I see so many snap judgements in this fandom that I'm always skeptical (I mean this figure was called a KO of MP52 by at least a few people early in the thread) especially when it's just a theory based on observation and not anything from the company/designer.

I understand your skepticism, I laughed my ass off at those comments too. I Dont claim to be an engineer, but from the looks of it, it has so many similarities that cant be just happenstance in the look (with NA).

    YouTube (Legacy):
"Saw it on ShowZ and pre-ordered! I think MP52 looks great, but it's just too expensive for my me (also he looks like he skips leg day!). This on the other hand, seems to have better proportions, not completely sold on head sculpt, but there's the spare MP44 head for that!."

That's why I thought the head was off,! the wider head looks much better! the current head reminds me of Worzel Gummige.
