Hi, all. After seeing how show accurate the War for Cybertron figures are and how they’re relatively in a correct scale, I’ve been trying to collect G1 characters, starting with the original 18 Autobots and 12 Decepticons. However, I’ve encountered a few hiccups.

    1) I had to order Brawn and Windcharger from the Titans Return and Power of the Primes lines as they don’t have figures for War for Cybertron. However, I’m unsure if they’re in proper scale with the War for Cybertron figures. If any of you own them along with Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, or Huffer from War for Cybertron, could you please take pictures of them together so I can see how they scale with each other? And does anyone know if they’ll be getting figures in War for Cybertron down the road?

    2) I obviously need a Ratchet, but every Ratchet I’ve seen has been horrendously expensive. Either the Cybertronian mode, which tends to be over $100, or the Earth mode, which seems to average $300 or more. Does anyone know if there are any plans for a general release for Earth mode Ratchet, rather than releasing him in a limited box? I’d really rather not spend $300+ just to get Ratchet and an Arcee repaint.

    3) Last but not least, I need Gears. However, it appears that the only Gears figure dates back to G1. Is there a more recent figure I’m not aware of or are there any plans for a future Gears release?

    Thanks for the help.

That Gears is the ‘Generations’, from what I’ve heard his current going price is absurd these days.

Perhaps others can also chime in with some 3p options?

Hmm. Brawn and Windcharger are definitely smaller than they should be. They should be about Huffer’s height, not shorter than Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. Oh well. As for Generations Gears, thanks for the heads up. I’ll see if I can find one. At least he’s to scale with Brawn and Windcharger.

The best option is to wait. I’m pretty sure a proper sized Gears was already designed since he was far along enough to be featured in a WFC Kingdom art. Unfortunately, the word is, Gears was bumped from the line at the last minute. He most likely will come out in the next year or two. The POTP Brawn is the best version we ever got and I love it but he’s a bit small standing next to the recent Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. Almost , word is, another Ratchet might come out later next year so hold off and don’t pay $300 just yet. Just stay engaged with the hobby and you’ll get everything you want. At least you’ll have the newer/better versions.

A general heads-up on that toy, it's not a great Gears. It's a good toy, and the mold it's retooled from is, as it was designed to be, an unbelievably terrific IDW Swerve. Not a great Gears though.

I saw a 3rd party Gears for sale on eBay. Anyone know what I’m talking about, and if you do, anyone here own it? It looked pretty nice to me, but I’m iffy on getting anything 3rd party, and would prefer legitimate Transformers.

Yeah, at the very least, I’m really enjoying getting these classic G1 style characters. I’d like to fill out at least all the characters that were in the show right up until the movie, and maybe some of the characters from Season 3 and 4 (not necessarily all. I just want all of Season 1, 2, and TFTM). One thing I’m hoping to see is Studio Series 86 do all five Dinobots. I already have Grimlock and love it, and I’m looking forward to their Slag/Slug. It’ll be weird, though, having just two Dinobots that are show accurate and have to get three other Dinobots that aren’t done in the same style, so hopefully they’ll fill out the squad.

Another question: Are the Constructicons from Combiner Wars to scale with War for Cybertron? That’s another big purchase I’d like to make sooner than later (If I’m going to spend $300, I’d rather spend it on Devastator and not just Ratchet :p ).

That’s the same dream for a lot of us as well; to have close enough representations of our G1 favorites. You’re in a good spot because it’s happening now. Unfortunately, this is so popular that getting figures you’ve missed is very costly at the moment. Hopefully some of these get reissued and hopefully we get newer and better versions later so we wouldn’t even need to hunt down the ones we missed. (Like the new Sideswipe replacing the Siege Sideswipe). I’ve been collecting this entire time and I’m still missing stuff.

All the leakers with insider intel says all 5 Dinobots are coming in the new year or two. Maybe distributed across the Studio and Gen line. That’s the idea but things are always shifting in terms of wave line ups.

Regarding the CW Devastator, arguably, he is the right size as a combiner for the following reasons: It scales perfectly to Siege Omega Supreme and Titans Predaking. It looks great scaled to the rest of the WFC line, a true giant. The Constructicons are very good representation of their G1 selves. The individual figures are rather large Voyager class sizes. Davy does not scale well with the older CW Combiners and that’s ok because it’s heavily rumored that Hasbro “might” try a new and larger scale for the Combiners in the near future. Leaked info about a Commander scaled Motormaster implies a new Menasor in the works that will be closer to CW Devastator’s height. Stayed tuned .

iGear Hench and RTS Windcharger are good substitutes that scale really well with the WFC stuff, even if they're not really show accurate. For Ratchet, the easiest thing to do might be to get the SG version, it's not a perfect option, but he seems to be the cheapest out of the 3 WFC Ratchets. Here's some pics with my season 1 Autobots (plus Gigawatt) as they currently are. For Gears I got Maketoys Cogwheel.

Which Joes/Marvel/...Mikaela? are those? I keep thinking it might be nice to have little miniatures around the right size but haven't bothered looking in the last couple years.

Hold your horses on Ratchet, as @Apollux has mentioned there might be a new version next year.

The Joes and Spiderman are the Jadatoys Nano Metal Figs. The Joes come in a 6 pack currently but hold off a bit, they'll be releasing a larger pack later this summer and those 6 will be in it too. The other one is the Charlie that comes with the Buzzworthy Bumblebee classic Camaro. They size really well with Generations figures in my opinion.

I’d wait it out. I’ve got a few minibots from the Prime Trilogy and they just don’t scale well. Hasbro seems determined to cover the 84-85 lineup in the next few years including mini bots and combiners.

Ditto Ratchet. I believe people will get another shot at Ratchet and other hard to find exclusives. Or he gets a new figure as suggested by the leakers.

Personally I suggest going for the Unite Warriors Devastator from Takara. i’ve seen him go for around 300 on ebay. he’s got better paint applications and articulation, plus extra guns and pulldown visor on Devastators head.

Devastator scales great and poses well. The individual Constucticons scale much larger then WfC figures (they are bigger then Megatron). I think Hasbro might do another Devastator that is more show accurate, but I love the Unite Warriors set so I be okay if it doesn’t happen.

That's right! It is that Charlie. Thanks! I see waves and waves of the Marvel stuff on Amazon. I'll hold off on the Joes for a bit. But once I get my stuff up on shelves it'll be nice to throw some people up there besides just the ___ Masters. And then I just need a Voyagerish beefier Iron Man and a 18" or so Godzilla and I'm gangbusters for IDW and Marvel Transformers crossovers!

Yea, they announced the metal figs 20 pack on the joes fan first this month. The 6 pack has Duke, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, Baroness and Destro. The 20 pack will have them plus more

Titan Windcharger works for me, but he's about a head shorter than Cliffjumper/Bumblebee so technically he's too short.

For Brawn and Gears I use the 3rd party iGear figures, Hench and Cogz. As shown by @Fenrys Hench/Brawn being the same size (top of head) as Huffer makes him scale nicely. Cogs/Gears is about the same size, perhaps a smidge shorter, which also works for me.

(A big bonus for me was that design wise these are based a bit more on the G1 toy than the cartoon, without the negatives of the G1 toy. And since these were among my first Transformers toys I bought, big nostalgia button.)

Nice. And I just realized in the Marvel Godzilla comic he's actually shrunken down super small and then grows to about human size for most of it so the skies the limits for his figure! Now if only Jada had a Dum Dum Dugan figurine I could pair them together.

Brawn is too small, you want the iGear Hench, because it's the correct Sunbow scale. (He's basically the same height as Huffer.) Windcharger is a tad too short by like a millimeter or two, but he's actually no taller than Bumblebee or Cliffjumper in the scale chart. Surprisingly... Gears is also that short. So, Windcharger really isn't that far off. It's negligible in difference, really. For Gears, you want the Mech Fans Toys version. (I can't recall the name) but he's basically perfect scale. I'll repost my pic in a few.

It's really crazy after all these years we still can't get 20-30 toys that look like they belong together. Wouldn't pin my hopes on the next trilogy either. Had Lucy pull that football out of the way far too many times already.
