DX9's Hulkie was an All-in-one, and it was a legends figure.

What do you expect, it was released like 6 years ago. It still showed that it can be done if someone puts the effort in.

Dude I thought I was the only one fighting this fight, lol. Tho I have largely given up at this point. The Crowd seems to have an active dislike for Hulkie these days and besides what's done is Done. Still, I do agree with your point, @Magnusfan Nujevad. I do think it would be marvelous to see what a Modern redesign on Hulkie would be; with the overall increases in size and LOD that has happened in the years since Hulkie was released. Like just the name, "Hulkie"- it just says to me that they assumed this Legends scale was going to be a more 'cutesy' thing than what it became. I am all kinds of excited for these new takes on Devastator, but that DX9 original was something special. Glad I am not the only one that still appreciates it.

    Devastator needs to quit smoking...

That second pic just looks odd. And a bunch of construction vehicles mixed with cars...

And can Menasor's legs do that? come off?

MS should have Devs hunched over, ready to destroy some Autobots.

Oh, you're not the only one. I would have been over the moon if Magic Square had decided to essentially re-make Hulkie their current way (given that it was probably the same designer doing both); think of it, all the parts incorporated into the individual bots, with Magic Square's talent for hiding things like that tidily and making both modes work well enough - and no ball-joint elbows :)

No, I don't think it is beyond current capabilities, nor do I think it would have been unfeasably expensive, especially not since Menasor.

does anyone know what kind of joints MS Devy uses for the shoulders? I saw that NA decided to use pinned joints, which is kind of a massive red flag for long-term durability. I'm hoping MS uses ratchet joints.

I'm there with you guys. Hulkie is from a time before mini-Masterpieces, but it follows the way Devastator should combine. Hell, even Hasbro did that right with their huge Combiner Wars Devy and chubby Long Haul. Designing this guy is a puzzle, but this pants forming is like cutting the sky pieces of a jigsaw to make it fit. I can understand Menasor's trailer as a piece of the puzzle because it's really hard to keep some kind of scale in alt mode, but this...

If they need more mass, those pants should transform into the seventh (or if it eighth?) lost Constructicon, Bob.

my point being its not the best example of a partsforming-less combiner being good

especially compared to the new MS one that is better in every imagineable way

Except in engineering. You also realize that 6 years ago is not the same a now, right? New technological developments have made toy designing much easier, and the legends market has grown beyond what was possible back then.

If it's true that the Hulkie designer is also doing Hephaestus, then he threw non partsforming transformation out the window

Hey nobody is forcing you guys to get this, if you do not like it skip it and all your rantings about it.
Hulkie is no way, the way to show it can be done, too much been traded off to get to that point.
Bots with short arms, limited articulation, nice for what it was indeed and it will never leave my house.
Hasbro combiner wars, please !!!! what a pile of crap that 1 is, would not even waste my money on a KO of that.

A few years ago, MP-10 was the most accurate Prime we could get, then several years later, Magic Square would build upon that and give us their Legends Prime 2.0.
Just because it was limited back then, doesn't mean someone can't take the tricks an older mold used, and mix it with modern styles to create something better.

MP-19 wasn't made with being true toon accurate in mind. Takara was still making realistic alt modes with homages to the toon and toy. The direction didn't change because of technology, but more so because of what fans wanted. Sure we could get an all in one combiner, but it'll have major sacrifices to do so which in turn will take away from the aesthetic that most of these companies are going for. Mmc is a perfect example, some bots look great and others look wonky. Combined they are way too small and there were stability issues. It'll be interesting to see what they fix with their defensor.

i’ll admit some of ya’ll were right about nonpartsforming combiners when a good one comes out

cause right now the best we have is MMC Bruticus and as someone who owns it there can definitely be a LOT of improvements

just seems like partsforming is worth the trouble to get a more stable, more poseable combiner that doesn’t need to sacrifice one mode for the other 2

Oh, I'm going to get it, I think it's going to be really fun, but there are things I don't like at all. I'm very demanding transformation-wise, and I don't approve pantsforming or fake parts. But it's small, I don't mind the little space t occupies, so I say let's get it.

Hulkie and CW Devy are pretty clever examples, directions to take for making a perfect transformation Devastator. Maybe you care more about the looks, I'm more into engineering and fun.

This guy has the looks, and I bet it's going to have the fun, so we can all win.
