I think that the design thing is most likely due to the MCU putting them properly on the pop culture map. Before the 2014 movie if you were to ask Joe Public who Gamora or Yondu was, even if the context was Marvel they’d had given you Forest Whitaker eye. Even Star Lord, and I’m guilty of this myself. I’d heard of GOTG but I never bothered to look into them.

I would assume that as a result of the MCU designs being the most well known, the reaction to them not looking somewhat similar to that would turn off a lot of people.

I’m not sure why they’ve chosen to have you only play as Star Lord, as they’re a team and not just a “solo” character like Spider-Man. It’s weird but at least you appear to have some control, and I do like how they’ve done that.

I’m going to disagree with you on the filler stuff and open world take, as there’s no long term fun in a game that’s set in the final frontier in a purely linear style. Sure nothing on the scale of Elite Dangerous or No Mans Sky would ever work for a game like this as it’d be too repetitive but they’re pretty much at their core a group of mercenary bounty hunters that travel to different worlds. It’d be nice to have some control over that and freedom to choose different contracts on different worlds so you can afford upgrades like faster fire rate or secondary fire mods for weapons. It’d fit the wacky theme of GOTG, similar to Ratchet and Clank.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is the magnum opus of superhero games in my honest opinion, beating the Arkham series. I know saying that will get me some flak but I truly believe it. I just don’t think Batman is as fun to play as Spider-Man. I’m biased towards Marvel too so maybe that plays a factor. I’m anxiously waiting for the sequel.

Miles Morales is nice, it’s different enough from SM but not worth full retail. If you find it at £20 ish then I’d suggest giving it a shot, especially on the PS5. Particle effects for the weather and ray tracing are gorgeous.

The Arkham series never topped Asylum, they just got more bloated. I find Asylum and Spidey to be different enough to make them hard to compare, but I reckon Asylum's combat hasn't aged well even though Spidey's is very much based on it.

Asylum was good, but after that it was just kinda stale. The thing about the Arkham style combat is that it’s more suited to a Spider-Man game as he’s got the agility and what not to be going between 20 or so enemies in one fight with relative ease, especially one that has been spidey for 8 years and isn’t still wet behind the ears.

Batman has his merits but eh it just doesn’t feel the same. I do like how the Batman games give you more of a challenge with the different enemy types and you have to dodge differently for knives and guns unlike Spider-Man where it’s spam button to win.

I was just hoping that in the case of GOTG, they’d have gone a bit more open with the combat instead of lock on final fantasy style.

the_old_force on Instagram posted a picture from a TRU in Heidelberg, Germany circa 1992. jayjaysted left this comment, which is what sparked my question about MASK's popularity there:

"Maybe the year in the camera was set wrong, but if my memory doesn't play tricks on me, Mask was definitely still around in vast amounts in Germany in 1992. Actually even more so than in the late 1980s imo for whatever reason. This is exactly how I remember it myself. Red walls stacked with Mask up to the ceiling."

Thanks a lot :)  Been a busy week ended by my PC needing reinstalling totally!
Sorry I don't check in much here lately, mostly active on Facebook.
Still buying robots but the love isn't in it of late.
WFC has been a roller coaster of cool stuff but soo so much in short succession. Hasbro are really pushing things out too fast.
That coupled with having to go through hoops sometimes to get stuff and stupid price exclusives takes away the fun.
Really fed up now of buying the exact same figures over and over. Titans Returns was good but now seems a waste of time as WFC is the line we wanted then.
I think once I get all the Kingdom stuff I want etc I will have to take a hard look at whatever else they do in the future.

Today's #deskbot is an ugly brute in more ways than one. Studio Series Blackout is a bit of a mess in bot mode but he has a great presence and looks great despite his excessive kibble. But it does all serve his massive and lovely Pavelow alt-mode so it's a worthy trade off. IMG_-bcnh7m.jpg

I remember the hype this guy was getting when he was first announced way back when SS was revealed, everyone wanted him.

You could still buy MASK in decent quantities in the UK in places like woolworths then iirc too.

Congrats and commiserations all rolled into one. :p

Given the volume of releases a full refund would have probably been nice at the expense of a battered product box (contents ok) but none of us work on that basis with each order we place. Well I for one do not.

I am pleased you got a properly packed figure. Take solace that you got a decent discount and the figure for a grand total of £50. ;)

With hindsight I am as well given Hasbro are pumping out the releases and redecos at a ridiculous rate. Haemorrhaging cash - nurse - take my bank cards away. :D

Buttons McBoomboom, *exactly* the sort of nickname you get in the criminal underworld! The art here is a bit odd, like a mishmash of traditional Western brushwork but anime-inspired poses. Anyone remember those super-odd pieces used for the SNES release of Street Fighter II? These are in that vein.

Alternatively, I might be interested in Skullcruncher, now I have Thrust on the way and I'm looking to collect the Decepticon Infiltration unit for Nebulos, as featured in IDW1's Stormbringer :D  If The Porcshe Bocster didn't take you up on your twofer, feel free to slide into my DMs with a price...

Also reading @Siege Fan and @bcm77 on Golden Axe. I lean more towards Siege's position on this (can I call you Siege? Mr Fan is a bit formal), while on a surface level there's not much difference between Golden Axe and the likes of Streets of Rage, there are various little design decisions that I now find annoying. The priority of the attacks, the effectiveness of the potion thieves, even the way the enemies are knocked down/get up all add up to a clunky and aggravating experience for me. I did enjoy it back in the arcade but maybe that was just the dopamine hit from the spells and depositing more coins in response to dying from to cheap attacks!

I don't get any time for gaming these days but I have very happy beat-em-up memories from the likes of Double Dragon, Renegade, Crime Fighters, and indeed Golden Axe The Revenge of Death-Adder. You'll believe a centaur can ride a mount!

I remember too. Such a fantastic figure and an exciting time. Can't believe it's already been over three years!

Today is off to an interesting start. Watching the Batsui dance while Lacrymosa plays over the top. Yep. Gonna be an interesting day.

Yeah, basically the animation timing is a nightmare if you happen to get knocked down or whatever in the wrong place, especially between two enemies. Simply walking out of the way isn't fast enough either lol.

Yet I don't recall that being a thing playing it way back when? I mean I actually completed it.

Is X-panse still available to order cheaper on Amazon then - As I don't think the one I have on pre-order is even due for another 6 weeks ?

    ------------

Also does anyone know if T-Wrecks is supposed to be released in the UK (properly) like maybe with one of the Galvatrons on on his own, as I keep seeing hims listed as "limited stock" and It got me wondering is he supposed to be rare ?

    --------------

Lastly does anyone know if anyone has made some after market teeth for Kingdom Dinobot yet ?

I think we were just more forgiving of that sort of thing. My computer growing up was a ZX Spectrum, and I will never not love it, but in terms of interface, responsiveness, general "feel" of controls, I was used to a wide variety of implementations, shall we say - compared to which, pretty much any arcade game was a slick and polished affair!
