    Loved GA back then but Christ it's a terrible game to play now, it's almost impossible to play by today's standards where Streets of Rage still works.

    There's a few lines I never saw anywhere and I've always wondered... Police Academy for instance.

    I remember as a kid searching right at the back of a peg and hearing some girl showing off in front of her friend, 'they're all the same, mate.' Pulled out the Ghostbusters figure I'd stored there and off I went!

    Same!

    You'll love him, really has the henchman vibe he should.

    The ongoing story structure is perfect for Netflix. Hopefully pishy WFC and the MOTU stuff do well enough to bring loads back! An updated Bravestarr wouldn't go amiss...

    Well, now, sounds like this first part is gonna be a He-Man romp before a midseason cliffhanger where it all goes tits up for our heroes, and as a fan of Dogma I'm pretty stoked, by Ol' Kev's enthusiasm to boot
    I do hope that's the case because that'd make the a really great entry point for new fans (possibly just in time for Mattel to lose the IP they "created" *Cough*Don'tMentionConan*Cough* ), and, my GAWD, what a way to blow their tiny minds if so!

    Hey, thanks for the reply!
    The odd thing is that on ebay and anywhere else showing the back of the card I've only seen "Distributed in the UK" on them.
    Any idea why MASK seemed to be particularly popular in the UK? Both here and in Germany that line seemed to have quite a lot of longevity.

    Thanks!

    I can't speak for Germany, obviously, but I can't help theorising that like the originating nation of 3 3/4" well-articulated figures, Japan, the UK is an island nation so living space is at a premium, thus smaller toys with bigger vehicles, and/or other play-enrichment gimmicks are/were very appealing to UK kids and parents. Also the emphasis on vehicle toys was already strong in the UK culture and toy market (fallout from the promotion of industrialisation by celebrating technology maybe?) with Corgi & Matchbox toys from the '50s onwards, and dominant kids media like Gerry Anderson's stuff from Supercar, thru Stingray, to Thunderbirds. Something I dare say The Transformers themselves benefitted from too.
    Just a theory though.

    @Siege Fan,
    I last owned Golden Axe via Xbox Live a few years ago and still liked it. Some nostalgia but I also liked games much more when they were that simple.

    Will let you know when Scourge arrives. I haven't had one with the original alt mode before so it'll be a first!

    Oh, yeah, definitely an angle of the "two World Wars, and One World Cup" Victory in Europe mentality in English culture making "fighting" (if not straight War) toys popular, though TBH they had been since before thinking back to Peter Cushing's admission to being a big fan of William Britain's stuff, most particularly the historical armies stuff, and wargaming, which was kind of established (at least in the West AFAIK) by H. G. Wells 'Little Wars'.

    It's a very good theory! MASK was slightly before my time but from what I've seen they were also good toys. As well as the vehicles, Boulder Hill looks like a great playset.

    Thanks for the info. I remember reading somewhere recently about MASK having a lot of longevity in Germany and the war toy theory makes a lot of sense.

    Square Enix are getting more use out of the engine they created for that shitty Avengers game as a Guardians of the Galaxy game has been announced.

    It has the same "MCU lite with random new stuff to put our own spin on things" aesthetic and Pound Shop voice acting the Avengers game had and only Star Lord appears to be playable.

    Much as I don't want to pollute the sea, this game can get in it.

    On the bright side if there's a ML wave I can potentially get the Rocket figure although I would have to remove the stupid goatee the Square designers have given him.

    I'd like to say its because the MASK line was one of the real highlights of the 80s. Absolutely quality items throughout!

    It probably has more to do with the way the cartoon aired though, anything appearing on those 4 mainstream channels had a huge chance of finding an audience. A trend which continued well in to the 90s with US oddities like Babylon 5, Penn and Teller and even Bill Hicks finding huge audiences and fame in the UK well before the US audiences twigged on.

    Maybe we do actually have decent taste after all!

    If I had to take a punt on a theory, I'd guess MASK was popular in Germany because of the whole "Civic defense"/Rescue angle, as in rather than being explicit "war toys" MASK has public service/civic duty angle with "normal" vehicles sort of rising to the occasion of a "hidden enemy's" attack, and "Terrorism"/"Extremism" was writ large in '80s culture globally to my perception (with the media Blitz on the IRA in the UK, Baader-Meinhoff in Germany, and PR against the PLA just about everywhere globally, yep, it's that Cold War/Realpoloitik angle once again).

    Haha, when you've two dogs who like to sit with you charging your phone isn't an option!

    Had it been adjusted? Only ask cos I played it on the Sega collections for the PS3 and 4, and it was almost impossible. Used to own the Megadrive and Atari ST original. I'm much more likely to play a retro game than anything modern so I'm all about scrolling beat em ups :)

    It’s interesting to see another opinion on it, I knew a GOTG game was coming but was worried after Avengers was pure ass. I’m actually really really loving the direction they’re going, and I’m so happy they aren’t based on the MCU designs. It’s fresh and the music hopefully will be good.

    I was hoping for more of a semi linear open world type of thing on different worlds and biomes with the Milano as a base where you can switch character and what not.

    Superhero games don’t really work when they’re restricted to beat them ups imo, especially if you’ve got a character like Iron Man or in this case Peter Quill who can fly. They could have given the team those jet packs like in the second movie so they can follow Peter around if you wanted to fly for traversal reasons.

    Then again, Drax might have something to say about that...

    The gameplay looks okay? Could be better but it’s not terrible, and to me the relationships within the team seem realistic for a group of misfits.

    I just hope you can change the music through a playlist in game, or make it so it’s randomised and not just the same few tracks each time.

    I think Insomniac should have been given this title instead of Square Enix.

    @Siege Fan,
    If I remember right it was the Megadrive version ported to the XBox but it's been so long since I played either the Megadrive or arcade original I couldn't say with any accuracy if there were any differences. It was cheap though, if that helps! :D

    @RoboW4rrior298,
    The designs still are largely movie inspired just with a few twists. Exceptions being Gamora who's in her knockoff Mass Effect armour from more recent GOTG comics and Drax who looks bloody awful whatever inspired that design.

    The overall tone with the music and the humour was also straight out of the MCU Guardians, which isn't the worst thing because that's what made the movies work, but only Star Lord being playable means to me that it's a non event because I can't stand the character.

    Rocket, Groot and Yondu are my favourite Guardians.

    I'd have gone with a full on classic comic aesthetic and avoided any kind of open world element like the plague UNLESS the story was kept nice and compact and there was zero in the way of filler content such as boring side missions, races, collectible hunting and especially all that leveling up and crafting rubbish most games in the genre seem to have now. Just do a good action game where you either play as various team members and shoot things or fly a spaceship and shoot things.

    Keeping things more simple and streamlined would for me make a better experience, most games don't need all that fluff added to it.

    I thought the PS4 Spidey game was great, it was the reason I bought the console in the first place and it's one of the only games I've got in the 3 years of having it that I completed even some of the filler content on, I just reached a point of burnout before finishing the last DLC.

    I won't buy a PS5 just for more of the same with Miles Morales but I like Spider Cat which has almost enabled me on the Hot Toys figure :D

    The Morales game is decent on PS4 but it's best bought in a sale as it's essentially extended DLC!

    The Live Arcade release was a port of the arcade version, the Mega Drive version was part of the Sega Mega Drive ultimate collection. There are some graphical differences between the two versions but they're largely the same aside from the fact that the Mega Drive version is longer with an extra level after you beat Death Adder.
