Does anybody else find the Nation Broadcast Alert Signal(US) to be absolutely panic inducing? Like, I get it. Thats the point. But I mean it immediately sends me into an absolute panic. A part of me has always sworn that theres some sort of subliminal messaging in the damn thing to induce terror. As long as I remember I’ve been afraid of it. Even when I didn’t know what it meant, As a kid I would start crying and rush to my mother. Hearing in the middle of the night I wake up screaming. It’s just as bad as when I get a really bad episode of sleep paralysis.
Darkness. I know there are no monsters out there, I know there's no one, and no thing(s) out there and yet, it freaks me out to no end. I absolutely detest it. Claustrophobia. Tight spaces, especially 2-door cars, make me so uncomfortable that I want to crawl out of my skin and I end up having a panic attack. It all started with a friend of my Dad's shoving me in my toybox, closing the lid, and then sitting on it while I screamed to be let out at the age of 4 and 5. My Dad laughed at first until he realized I was genuinely terrified pulled him off of the box and yanked me out of there. Might also be where the darkness thing came from.
Wasps, and to a lesser extent bees. Very good in terms of ecological contribution, very bad in terms of oh god get away from me!
You know where you're in your car on the highway, driving along with your friends, family, or just yourself... And you suddenly find yourself behind one of these?
I'm not sure why, but I've never been scared of that alarm. I've only ever associated it with severe thunderstorm warnings, and those have never been super serious in my area. And the noise just isn't scary to me. It kinda sounds like cicadas. I worry about your neighborhood, man.
Wasps (though I'm not a fan of bugs in general when they're in the same room as me), barnacles and to a lesser extent mussels, not having control over my faculties, heights / flying.
The emergency broadcast signal and air raids are some of the most unnatural, terrifying sounds I can imagine. Yeah there are some pretty spooky noises that nature can produce, but usually it means absolutely nothing for the average person. They just happen. An air raid or emergency broadcast signal are terrifying because not only are they unnatural, they only ever mean bad news for us regular folks.
I have sensory processing disorder and my neighbors keep lighting illegal fireworks at night that make my heart skip a beat. At least, I hope they are fireworks. The idea that guns are going off that commonly is a whole other reason to be scared of my neighborhood.
