Oh don't be a toy snob :lol

For the price of Toyworld Freedom Leader I would just get Threezero DLX Optimus, but that's just me.

The hands are pretty bad, but outside of a more accurate mouthplate compared to TW, the head sculpt is too squished together with the antennae placement compared to the actual model and the threezero Prime, see my previous post for the head sculpt side-by-side comparison. Really honestly if accuracy was what was being sold to me, I'd buy Threezero's. In the meanwhile, I'm gonna keep my eye on the other upcoming Third Party Optimi.

I like it better than Toyworld's, people comparing it and completely forgetting their alt mode (dem feet) looks like trash too.

    Meanwhile the MPM's alt-mode:

He even has a feet problem as well. The fact the SS figure beat both of them in this regard...

I dunno, I like it enough to buy and the transformation seems enjoyable. MPM’s always kinda differed from the mainline MPs in that they feel more like they’re one step up from what modern day ROTF/DOTM leader class figures would be, with prices that reflect that rather than aiming to be the same as G1 MPs but for movie designs, otherwise I don’t think we’d be getting any of these for less than $200 USD. Definitely not what everyone is going to like but I personally find the line to be good in what it does.

I have a lot of disappointments with this figure which can be simply distilled to "I think they should not have tried to represent this design in MPM form this soon". I'm of the camp that I feel no currently released transforming figure has done this design justice (SS38 skated close with good intentions as a first try). As the figure that will likely become the most "accessible" right next to SS38, I was really hoping HasTak could set a high bar for future representations of the character, official or 3P. Even with its widely perceived sins, MPM-4 at least still made for a great canvas for 3rd parties to improve upon. I don't see any lasting potential with this figure outside of how the legs compress in robot mode. I'm sensing a pattern where HasTak wants to try their hands at more premium versions of a character when they haven't even perfected lower pricepoint depictions.

And I say this as someone who has no major attachment to the G1/movie hybrid aesthetic. The idea of MPM as a "be-all-end-all" representation of characters is quickly eluding people.

my main thought about this line is that it still dons the “masterpiece” name, so i’m expecting the best that hastak can do. from what i’ve seen, the mpm is a “BETTER” rendition of the SS/kingdom/mainstream lines, rather than the “BEST” that the masterpiece line represents.

obvious examples: why the hell don’t they have fully articulated fingers? instead, we get some curled up shit. also, those huge pegs sticking out from the inner legs are so unsightly and seem overkill for keeping the legs together when they’re already straight to begin with. and last but not least, those stupid cat ears that could’ve been so easily avoided but having a simple hinge.

That's a fair point. After watching the MPM-12 review, I had a sort of wake up call that it seems MPM was never meant to go all the way. MPM-3 was fresh enough as a novel reintroduction and rebranding of the line but it still had some flaws which would only grow within future offerings (not being able to license the correct iteration of altmode, stability issues, etc).

While I appreciate what MPM is getting at, I think that more often than not, basing a figure's transformation off a past one and then working around it will not get good results. Hate to trod on my own nostalgia too, but the way some past figures were handled should never be used again lol.

I'm sorry, but the as did the back of the truck as legs so well that until I see someone do it better than that, I am fine with my (eventual) premium ss.
(customized original ss is my choice ATM)

Everyone forgets. Bee movie Prime is a Marmon like AOE evasion Prime in bot mode and a Freightliner FL86 in Alt.

Actually the implication was that he always was meant to be a Marmon in the movie but was swapped for a Freightliner FL-86 because the further delving into G1. His Kibble is meant to be a Marmon Truck only because they designed it with the Marmon in mind rather than the FL86.
While the feet do hang off of Toyworld, I'd say I prefer the flatter look of the Toyworld's shins compared to the MPM's shins just hanging out like they really aren't ashamed they don't do more to hide in the mode. That's just me, and you can like what you like. Honestly it just feels like a slightly redesigned SS Figure with a larger plastic limit. I could let alot of the figure pass if it weren't for the fact that head REALLY ruins this figure and turned me off buying this guy.

Aww cmon, are we really gonna have to set our bar that low, having to settle lowering all our standards with Hastak like this? Apparently yes, because I understand what you mean, so a valid point.

Real shame though that I need to look at the Masterpiece line like they're a 0.5 upgrade over the mainline SS/Kingdom/mainstream XD

haha sorry man, i’m not to convince anyone of anything, really! just my opinion after stepping back and looking at all 3 mp lines (g1, beast wars, bay movie). the mpm line def has more mold detailing and feels less fragile bc it’s not painted all over, so that yields itself to better playability/durability over the other two lines imo.

i collect all 3 lines just to be a “mp completionist”, but as i’m running out of display space as the lines are growing, i’m debating more and more whether i want to stop collecting the mpm line. it just doesn’t WOW me as much as the other two lines.

i would rather they call this their “premium” line based on how i see it as a step up from their main releases, and save the “masterpiece” name for the best they can do. would the price be higher bc of the added engineering? sure. but i, and i assume many others like me, would be willing to pay more if the quality is there.

Everyone, including Paramount. Because otherwise this discrepancy would not be a thing.

Yeah the MPM is clearly worse. At least Toyworld doesn't have cat ears, hides the "brows" at the front, and doesn't have his leg vents showing. Only problem they both have are the feet. And that's not even going into bot mode.

But is it a fair comparison though, Freedom Leader is 75% to 200% more expensive? I think what people want is mainstream Masterpiece G1 quality, and at the MPM price range, you just are not going to get that.
