That’s exactly it. Netflix runs on stats, data and algorithms. It’s shortsighted, IMO, because the company believes it’s maximizing its product to produce the most profit but what is happening is it’s making its customers super distrustful and eventually disloyal to the brand. /end Netflix rant.

If that were the case they would stop, because they'd have the stats telling them it's not working.

Marketing is expensive. They probably figure (rightly) that they're never going to have more interest in a product than when it first launches. At that point, if something catches on they can ride the wave (see Bridgerton, Tiger King, etc). With all of the content they've got coming out they'll shoot out a blurb, and if the first weekend goes well they'll start getting behind it.

But if something comes out and has low engagement, they're not going to bother trying to bail it out because there's going to be something else coming the following week...or something else that week is a hit and that's all that matters.

Yup it'll probably be as clumsy and barely fleshed out as those two, which was fine for those characters but Dinobot deserves better IMO.

Dinobot's big face turn came in the first 40 minutes of the show. People seem to forget that. He only turned because his coup attempt failed and Primal showed mercy rather than letting him die.

The IDW comic did a way better job of building to it than the show did. All they need to get across for this is the face turn, and they've got 6 episodes to build to it before he dies heroically helping the good guys stop the bad guys.

I get what your saying but I don’t think I fleshed out my point. Data can only take you so far. I’m sure Netflix has tons of examples where their data driven predictions were wrong. Either the marketing push didn’t work because the content didn’t connect with the audience or the audience discovered the content that Netflix data was ignoring.

All of this stuff centers on human interaction which has a certain level of predictability and a certain level of unpredictability. Ultimately it’s an idiotic system IMO because it doesn’t actually help viewers find content. All it does is give Netflix a shield to justify their decisions and avoid blame when something fails- “the data made me do it.”

Data can’t predict that you’ll remember to watch season 3 of Your Favorite Netflix Series when it shows up who knows when. So when season 3 flops, it might not be due to lack of viewer interest.

Furthermore, data can show something was successful but viewers actually hated it. The show gets another season that really craters. It’s foolish. You have to treat your content like flowers in a nursery and not just randomly throw seeds in the ground and randomly water it.

Data will tell them who watched WfC, how much WfC they watched, how long it took them to watch all of WfC (if they did), and how they rated it (if they did). That data can be used to help serve it up to them to make sure they don't forget.

My son used my Netflix profile to watch a few episodes of Power Rangers *once* and now they ALWAYS show up in my suggestions. I would be shocked if Kingdom doesn't get thrown to the top of my recommendations once it launches.

The downside is all it's recommending is MMPR (which I've seen a million times) and Beast Morphers which hasn't really been as interesting for me. Unfortunately they took down Dino Charge before I could get started on it.

(Though I think it's coming back this week)

Here's the thing with Netflix, they instrumental in ushering in the era of streaming TV and streaming service original shows - so much so that even networks that for years produced original content started calling their shows "originals", but now that other services have joined they are struggling to hold onto their uniqueness. They are also seem to be scrambling to hold onto subscribers so they discard whatever doesn't doesn't work even after one season. It's sloppy, like you said. They even cancelled Daredevil which was popular.

I've never cared about Netflix, and as an anime fan I don't like how they are trying to pander to anime fans just because anime has been getting more attention that before, and perpetuating this idea that anime encompasses western animation when it doesn't.

Anime is animation, yes, but it a specific western term to refer to Japanese animation works. Calling a non-Japanese animation anime is like saying that we grew up watching Marvel anime in the late 90s which isn't true. We don't call western comics manga when they are the same thing, so why are we calling western cartoons anime? We still use the term to differentiate between what is western made and Japanese made.

Wasn't that because of Netflix and Disney not getting along due to Disney plus?

I guess this is slightly off topic, but netflix is planning to launch their own online store and they intend to sell toys.

Netflix moves into e-commerce with launch of online store

Considering they are airing transformers cartoons, it could be likely they might offer TF figures in the future, we'll see.

I should be excited at the reveal of these new Kingdom posters. But the failure of seasons 1 & 2 leaves me cold, feeling nothing except the oncoming dread of what they’re going to do to the Beast Wars cast.

I don’t even want the original voice actors to come back, because I don’t want them to be associated with this thing. They deserve better. Their characters deserve better.

But then … it might be good. There’s still a chance. Some way, somehow- this show might pull its head out of its pretentious ass, and give us a decent 3rd season.

I don’t expect it will. But I’ll watch it at least once & give it a chance to prove me wrong. And I really really want it to prove me wrong.

im just hoping the season will be longer than 6 episodes, thats what brought the other two down for me, the pacing was all over the place, even one more episode would have helped them

You’re in for disappointment then, it’s already confirmed that each ‘series’ will be 6 episodes.
