I constantly hear people say they want a Beast Wars reboot, but how would that reboot even look like? It can't just be BW with better graphics right? What would you actually want in a Beast Wars reboot?

I know IDW is currently publishing a BW reboot, how do you feel about that? Does it meet your expectations?
Or how would you handle a BW reboot?

I don't want a Beast Wars reboot. The cartoon will be infinitely better than whatever someone else would write. There would be somethings I'd tweak (lose the idea of Sparks and use laser cores instead, be more honest on what the Vok actually are, ditch Primus, use modern CGI, etc.) but the story is actually rather well-written already.

What needs to be rebooted is Beast Machines. It's an okay Transformers show if it were stand alone but is a horrible sequel to Beast Wars. We'd be better off with a Beast Wars sequel where the Maximals leave for Cybertron but get caught in a time hiccup...ending up on modern day Earth. While they mostly preserved the timeline, you can use the Ark incident to explain why the events of the 1986 movie hasn't happened yet in present day 2021.

    yes and no
I expected it to move at a fast pace but so far events have been strecthed out, i expected characters to be IDW's attempts at imitating the originals, but that's only true for a few of them, i didn't expect Cheetor to become a batgirl simp
It has been underwhelming, im not amongst the people who think the OG was near perfection or anything like that but this comic hasn't offered much in the way of improvements so far
More than a few things i'd like to address, probably not going to do so now
I'll say though, in what might be controversial, i'd remove the time travel aspect from the story, it's an unpleasant trope to me despite how tied it is to BW's identity

I wouldn't reboot it. The problem is someone will end up complaining about how the characters act differently.

Instead I would just do a continuation of the story universe. Have a Maximal battlecruiser detecting the transwarp signature of the missing Axalon but their communication to Cybertron gets intercepted by the Predacon Alliance.

The Maximal ship is attacked by a trio of Predacon ships as it enters a wormhole. The battle continues upon existing it. The Maximals destroys two of the Predacon ships. Though it's badly damage and is pulled into Earth's atmosphere. It fires again as the remaining Predacon ship tries to finish it off, disabling it.

The Maximal commander Polar Claw, leads his surviving crew against the Predacons of Jetstorm in a race to contact Optimus Primal and his missing crew.

    No reboot!

I wouldn't mind seeing a Beast Wars sequel, starring the characters NOT aboard that shuttle to the future (Ravage, Waspinator, Transmetal Terrorsaur, Transmetal Scorponok, Dinobot 2, and all those other protoforms that descended to Earth).

The Vok story was never really resolved.

I've already got Beast Wars on DVD, so I'm game for anything.

If I were to reboot Beast Wars, I'd probably ditch the time travel aspect and set it in the distant future like Beast Wars II/Neo. Megatron would be after the Underbase instead of the Ark, and I would naturally set things up so that Beast Machines doesn't happen.

That would be my idea too, post-apocalyptic Earth abandoned by humans, so it still has an "animalistic" setting for the characters to be in and you know be Beast Wars
Huh, more explicitly tying into the Marvel's continuity
The OG BW was a bit confusing on that detail, you had stuff like Starscream's ghost referencing events from the 86 movie, the Covenant of Primus obviously being a reference to the Marvel comics(probably due to Furman's involvement)
Im not a huge fan of the Marvel Comics(due to how things like death were treated for instance)but from a certain standpoint it does make sense for it to precede BW, since it was the Marvel continuity which first introduced the concept of small cybertronians in order to combat fuel shortage

Unless you don't include those characters.

I'd reboot Beast Wars from the complete ground up, using only the premise of Maximals and Predacons with organic alt modes but nothing else. All new characters, all new story, just as BW was to G1. Maybe have a Megatron and Optimus just for that recognition, but make them clearly different personalities than the cartoon.

You'd pretty much have to go that route to avoid comparisons with the previous iteration of Beast Wars. It's too much of a classic to really screw with; a clean break lets you avoid that kind of nonsense.

A good premise to go with might be a version of RID 2015, wherein the current crop of Predacons hijacked a prison ship and most of the Maximals are survivors who ended up on Earth. Introduce a Megatron that the prison ship Predacons are trying to link up with, and introduce an Optimus in the role of Depth Charge as somebody trying to find Megatron only to end up with the prison ship Maximals under his care (putting that Optimus in the role of Big Convoy from BW Neo), and you've got a decent start to a series.

I remember this from a few years back. It still looks good, especially for somebody who doesn't do it for a living.

We'll be getting something akin to a Beast Wars reboot with Netflix's Kingdom, however brief. We also have Beast Wars getting some kind of exposure in a movie in the coming years, so they'll both be different takes on it to say the least.

As for a dedicated reboot of Beast Wars, go for it. Given the current franchise landscape, it could stem from Cyberverse. Cheetor has already been introduced. Give him some other beastly cremates and let them go off on their own adventures. It could be fun.

For anyone looking for a new take on a sequel to Beast Wars, be sure to have a read of DEICIDE.
