So the Eternal movies are now on Netflix and holy fucking shit the first one is an utter disaster. First off, they cut out every scene of development that Zirconia and Nahalennia have in these chapters. Secondly, they skipped the 2/3rds of the sixth chapter that bring in the outer guardians. Oh, and the scene where the Four Heavenly Kings appear before Mamoru is also gone, along with many other scenes. It's like Toei decided to say, "Oh, you thought the second season of Crystal was rushed? Let's show you what a true rush job is!" To make matters worse, the dub is awful. Not only does the cast not seem to be putting as much effort into their performances as they did previously, but names are being pronounced wrong compared to before and they added honorifics, which just sounds awkward considering the first three seasons didn't have them. Artemis also sounds like someone impersonating Bosch rather than being Bosch. I just don't get who the utter moron was to cram 11 chapters of manga material into two 80 minute movies. These movies should have been at least two hours each since they would have been 12-13 episodes in television form. I am NOT looking forward to watching Part 2.
The first movie felt rushed. It should've been a series. The second movie was pretty good though. Overall kinda meh. SuperS is my least favorite season of the 90's anime but as far as my overall enjoyment goes, the 90's version of this arc wins. Hands down.
While the SuperS arc is my least favorite as well, it's at least down right entertaining and fun as hell while the last 7 episodes are without a doubt the best final battle in the franchise. Not to mention the animation is gorgeous.
The second Sailor Moon Eternal movie was no better than the first. At least they actually kept Nahelennia's Maleficient scene intact despite tossing out everything else that developed her over the thing. Nevertheless, this was still a complete rush job and shows that Toei really doesn't actually give a damn about Sailor Moon. If they did, they would have treated these movies way better than they did. That's all I've got.
And knowing Toei, that will pretty much be all they do for Sailor Moon this year beyon announcing Stars for another pair of rushed messes.
