Simba had to be taken to the pet hospital today because of an asthma attack. They’re going to keep him there overnight tonight to help stabilize him back to normal. Please keep him in your thoughts; he means a lot to me and my mom.

We took Simba out of the pet hospital yesterday and back to the vet so that they could monitor him while he's on oxygen. He's responding well to the medications they gave him and they're going to wean him off of the oxygen, so there's a chance we might be able to bring him home tomorrow! Really happy that he's gonna be okay. He's been with us for almost 13 years now, so he's an old man by cat standards.

 

Are they treating for CHF?

 

Found this guy while I was smoking. Something gave him a beating, but I'm taking good care of him.

 

CHF? As in congestive heart failure? I think so.

He was having trouble breathing for several months, but we attributed that to him just having asthma. The doctor at the pet hospital did say that his heart was a little heavy, which may lead to heart failure.

 

Correct. CHF leads to pleural effusion and/or pulmonary edema which both cause respiratory distress/difficulty. Hospitalization with supportive O2 is often necessary to treat uncontrolled CHF.

I'm glad your cat is responding to treatment. I wish him the best.

 

Got a call from the vet this morning. Simba isn’t doing as well as we had hoped regarding weaning him off oxygen. He’s still breathing heavily, and the medications can only do so much. They’re doing everything they can for Simba, but if he doesn’t get better soon, we may have to let him go.  

 

My cat ran away and got hit by a car. She was 15, and I think she was sick. I feel horrible. This was the last pic I took…

We had to put him down back in early June.   I haven’t posted much because of his passing as well as a few personal things I had to sort out.

Heard a weird noise in the kitchen.

 

Update on this guy. He's happy, healthy and thriving. When I first got him in the pic above he had scratches and cuts all about him and the last inch and a half of his tail had no hair, don't know what got him or what happened. Him a good sweet boy though, but he likes to play rough with big brother and annoys the hell out of him. That's kitten energy for ya. Ace is a sweet kitters though, we love him.

 

Had to say goodbye to one of my children yesterday. My little girl, Peony. She had been ill for a while and I knew it was time, but somehow that's not much comfort. She stayed feisty, affectionate, and maintained a hearty appetite through it all though, right up until the day before yesterday when she took a turn for the worse. The rational part of me knows it was the right thing to do to keep her from suffering, but it was still heartbreaking.

Here she is on the table, which is funny because she wasn't the sort of cat who usually went on tables and counters and such. She decided it looked like a good napping spot that day though.





And here she is with her big Sis, my Big Black Kitty, Lianna, who passed away around 4 1/2 years ago.

Squeaky was one of the sweetest, most affectionate cats I've ever met. She was so good-natured, and hardly ever into any mischief. She LOVED being petted and was a purring machine. Sometimes she would just sit or lie there and purr long after someone stopped petting her. She was a little trooper when it came to vets and medical stuff too. She was have been around 19 when she passed, and going on 14 years since we brought her and her sis home from the adoption clinic.

That's a long life for a cat - I just wish it could have been longer (without her suffering, of course). That's the thing about time spent with those you love. No matter how much you get, it's never enough.

I had to say goodbye to my man cat, today.

He had diabetes and developed pancreatitis. My son called and said he found him laying in some puke. I came home, rushed him to the vet and he died waiting for the doctor to come in. Real fun, holding your dead cat, while he is agonal breathing.
