Well the First Edition figures were great. But Prime:RID was certainly a Recessionformer. It really carried on into Generations 2012 with it's tiny deluxes. I'm not sure when the line recovered. Maybe Thrilling 30 or the year before?

But the apotheosis of Recessionformers was the horror that was the Dark of the Moon Line. Never forget what they tried to pass off as Voyager Class Optimus Prime compared to Voyager-class Battle Blades Optimus Prime 12 months prior.

I can get behind that kind of "they're good enough already" mentality for the likes of BW's Transmetals and the Autobot Brothers, assuming Hasbro were to reissue the better toys of each line, as not everyone has them. Although, I can't say I'm a fan of flaky chrome on the Transmetal and I don't know if Hasbro would be willing to actually change anything for the reissues. Still, if every single nobody from the endless pool of G1 characters can get toys, then so can the C-listers from other shows, especially if they actually appeared in a show. Plus, an important part of modern Generations is scale and I'd absolutely buy a Deluxe Quickstrike, Voyager Silverbolt, TMII Cheetor and Dinobot. Silverbolt especially as he just doesn't look right next to Kingdom Blackarachnia, being so small. Plus, I'd also want a redo of TMII Megatron as the original toy, while fine, was rather squat looking, at least compared to the majesty of the animation model (and I'd totally buy a retool with wings that could do the BM look).

Guess I have been out of the loop, but what’s this about Prime figures being next for the generations line?

I think a lot of what was addressed here is how I feel about the whole "Good enough" situation. The Transmetals have the flaking chrome issue as well as some having their name tampoed on them for no reason. Their ball joints have loosened in the 20+ years, design sensibilities have changed, and they weren't all as accurate as some have said.
For example, would it be so blasphemous to have Rampage's beast mode legs actually end up hovering above his shoulders like in the show? Or perhaps have Rattrap's backpack rotate?

I stopped following the leak threads a while back because of the chaos, so I am also unsure why Prime stuff is supposedly getting made.

Multiple reliable leakers have confirmed Prime figures are being strongly considered for the next line and more recently have even specified the likes of Arcee and Knockout. From the sounds of it, they seem to have made it past the initial concept phase. Additionally, an Amazon listing for a Prime Optimus Prime popped up the same time as the listings for the rest of Kingdom and SS for this year.

I wouldn’t call it compromised... it was practice... a learning experience.

I mean at the end of the day isn't it a good thing that regardless of which era gets new toys first Hasbro's actually trying to give attention to eras other then G1 and the movies again after years of us getting nothing but G1 and movies up the wazoo even if it'll still be a while before it gets to full force in the future if ever? I mean there was a time where many people me included thought that we wouldn't get so much as reissues of classic BW figures for BW's 25th anniversary let alone have a Generations line themed around BW but Kingdom came and proved us wrong.

If anything shouldn't we focus on supporting each other to make sure we all get what we want in at least Generations? Hasbro's giving us a chance to vote with our wallets with what we want in the future and I don't know about you but I'm taking it. Especially if it does lead into us getting new Animated representation in the future.

only if you like every era, in that case no matter what comes it's a win for ya, and even then one could like both Armada and Prime but prefer the former

I wonder if the poor sales of the Micromaster and Battle Master class in Siege had some impact, since the UT is very centered on Mini-Con whose modern form would have likely worked off the modern Micromaster and Battlemaster concepts and play pattern.

Nah. i’ve watched both recently (i’m 41 and have no nostalgic attachment to either show) and Armada barely had any visual appeal (or any appeal) to me. Prime was sleeker and simpler. More distinctive silhouettes and the characters were capable of more expressive body language (the fight scenes in Prime ARE amazing). Everything about Armada was just busy and clunky looking. They looked like toys in the worst way.

    wouldn’t rule it out.

Semantics. Lots of elements got lost in the cutting room floor because the two sides weren't communicating at peak efficiency yet.

I'd honestly at least expect Hasbro to test the waters of the UT a bit more, but maybe the interest just isn't there as much as we'd assume?

If Hasbro goes more toward Prime, then I will slide more funds over into some 3rd party stuff I have been wanting. The prime toys never really appealed to me. If they go more RiD2001 and UT and the designs are good, I would be more apt to spend on those. Either way is good to me.
