What makes you think Takara will make their own Magnaboss lol

 

As someone who has an extra Siege Red Alert waiting for stickers to be turned into Clampdown ( looking at everyone at Toyhax ) , I POed this and am waiting for all the other reprints of Kingdom Sideswipe because I can't have enough Autobot car troop fodder.

 

Shit. I just realized I'm going to have to order another weapon set from Nonnef...

If you’re excited for this, good on you. I’m just saying that there’s not a lot here for folks that have Siege Sideswipe.

If you’re excited by this and going to buy it, good on you man. Sideswipe is a fantastic mold, and if anyone doesn’t yet have him or one of his many redecos, they should totally get this set.

 

And if they did, what assurances would we have that the toy wasn't of questionable quality, ala the Super Ginrai retools and Godbomber, or all of TF-Go. TakaraTomy doesn't have a great track record with sole-sourced mainline TF product.

 

Or all these sets are just going to cost the same and Voyager Grimlock was just a first set bonus before the price increase for the 2 deluxe pack as inflation rises.

I've preordered both, more so out of impulse than really needing them, but at least Sideswipe is a better improvement over his Siege counterpart than Mirage is. For the most part. I was really hoping for a spoiler, bit at least he comes with his rifle AND shoulder launcher, which still mounts on his shoulder!

Sad that we are getting BWII Skywarp and probably neither of the other two Magnaboss figures.

It wouldn't be able to combine with anything anyway, so having the other members around would just annoy the fanbase.

 

Hands down! Sideswipe looks like mini masterpiece. But those black pieces on the car do bug me a bit.

 

Honestly, I think they should’ve retooled the falcon head into a more bald eagle look, instead of just painting it over.

It's funny that the unpaintable plastic they chose was black, why not red instead? Heck, why use unpaintable plastic at all? They've shown that they don't care about structural strength due to the number of transparent plastic they use.

 

This is what has brought me around. I was already grudgingly ordering this because I love Sideswipe and Skywarp looks interesting, but looking at the MP when I got home, man Kingdom looks good beside it. I have to admit I was wrong in my first impression. (Also the twin thing with the alt modes is cool.)

 

The "unpaintable" plastic has a few potential advantages. It's far more resistant under normal handling conditions to warping and breaking. It can also be oil-impregnated, for a self-lubricating effect for joints or gearboxes.


The unpaintable sprue on Sideswipe is also linked to his fists and hip joints, both of which I think would be more of an eyesore than that stray black hinge.

 

Except the mainstays are missing because the three left would be new molds and these are where they're putting the repaints rather than in retail.

Y'all spent Prime Wars complaining about repaints...this is what the alternative ALWAYS was.

Skywarp is the Japanese character created for Beast Wars II in order to make use of the eagle mold from Magnaboss.

His name was Silverbolt in the US, and he came out before the Fuzor debuted.

To avoid confusion, HasTak went with "Maximal Skywarp" because then when it's time for "Maximal Silverbolt" everybody will know it's Birddog.

Also, BW characters sharing names with G1 characters is nothing unusual. See Scorponok, Silverbolt and Rampage. (And that's just within the show cast.)

 

Like I said, why use it at all? Their incredibly liberal use of transparent plastic shows that they don't care if the figure breaks or not.

They've been around for about 23 years now. The original toy's name was Silverbolt, but to avoid confusion with the BW Fuzor, they've gone with the Japanese Beast Wars II name.

What's frequently one potential breakage point doesn't equate to all the joints being failure points.

 

I like how the Earth-mode Sideswipe has basically the same version of Earthrise Sunstreaker's car mode. I actually do like that.

Skywarp, tho... If they can't form a part of Magnaboss, what's the point? Especially for more than $20. Might as well make an original character or a Beast Wars version of a pre-existing character. Say, what character hasn't gotten a figure representation in the War for Cybertron Trilogy who has been sold as a deluxe-sized figure multiple times before? *Cough* Windblade *Cough*
