The movie was announced all the way back in ~2003, thereabouts, after SEED Destiny finished airing. But head writer (and the director's wife) Chiaki Morosawa's ailing health and subsequent passing lead to the project being put on indefinite hiatus. They drop a message every couple of years or so to say that the project is still on the table, but no concrete information about it has ever surfaced since.

It's a significant 20th Anniversary for SEED. It's an insignificant ~42nd for the franchise as a whole.

Fair enough. I hope it's at least good. I mean, it has to be better than Destiny, right?

Well, I assume they don't have enough runtime to awkwardly swap out the protagonist halfway through and then have no story to tell in the back half :p .

Watched all of The Irresponsible Captain Tylor. The TV series was quite a bit of fun. It’s able to balance the inherent comedy born from the premise with some incredibly tense moments (primarily happening once the show gets going).

The crew of the Soyokaze have a good dynamic, and it’s pleasant to watch them accept and appreciate Tylor as time goes on. The show does a good job keeping you guessing as to whether Tylor knows what he’s doing or is just super lucky, though by the end it’s pretty clear which one it (primarily) is.

I liked Tylor, Lt. Yamamoto, and Azalyn the most out of the cast. Yamamoto actually grows a lot by the end, maybe the most out of the whole cast.

The show’s ending, while leaving plot points unresolved, did at least send us off on a good note. But then, we have 10 extra-length OVAs to discuss.

The first 2 OVAs (or 1 movie, as you’ll find it packaged in both forms), I’m honestly not fond of. A lot of what’s going on is unclear (granted there’s a reason for this, but not everything gets a clear explanation ultimately), a number of characters act out-of-character, and generally they have a fairly melodramatic tone that really doesn’t fit the series.

The next 6 OVAs give us some nice focus on the other characters, and I did generally enjoy them. They do have elements that build towards the final 2 OVAs, but most of them can be enjoyed on their own as episodic stories.

The final 2 OVAs bring the events of prior 6 (and some unresolved plot points from the TV run) together....only to end on a cliffhanger. Things are set up, but no follow-up was ever made. And so, even with 10 additional episodes, we don’t have a conclusion.

We never learn who the new threat targeting the UPSF and Holy Raalgon Empire are, we don’t learn the fate of Wang and his coup forces after the new enemy attacks the Melva, we don’t get to know how the UPSF and Raalgon forces will work together to face the new enemy, or if they will make peace after, or even if Azalyn gets rescued after her escape from the Melva.

It’s very frustrating, and honestly, the series would probably have been better off ending with the TV show. That wasn’t a perfect ending, but it’s better than how the OVAs stop. I don’t know why a resolution wasn’t made, but we can’t really expect one 25 years after the last OVA episode.

That all being said, I do still like the series. You might end up clenching your teeth at the final OVA ending, but I’d still give it a shot if the premise sounds interesting.

Finished episode 9 of SSSS.Dynazenon! So far, it's been a great sequel to SSSS.Gridman! Characters are way more fleshed out, and I'm loving the continuous homages to the original 90s Tokusastu! These Gridman Universe anime have been a great homage to Tokusatsu as a genre!
    Minor spoilers below.

I have enjoyed the show so far, but honestly I am kind of feel the side stuff is dragging this show down, like I am hoping the whole payoff on her sister's situation works out otherwise its just kind of there for no reason, also the villains are kind of boring. One of them showed some interesting stuff with him going to school with the two of them and a few others kind of changing slightly, but I felt the last episode they are kind of shifted back to what they were before those changes.

I do however enjoy the characters they brought over from the other show, but even they I feel are kind of getting shafted on development.

I still watch it, but I don't feel as committed to it as I did Gridman, that can all change in an episode however, but I feel like we're in a stall where they wanna make the jump but just don't yet. It is very frustrating.

Of the new shows I've watched this season though, I have to give it to Vivy, I feel like we've seen all the stuff before but there is an ambiton to the show that is refreshing, it knows what it wants to do and the last episode while not a surprise ending, seeing it actually happen was shocking. So I am really looking forward to seeing how they are gonna stick that landing.

Vivy and 86 again had great episodes.
After watching those two back to back I watch I killed slime for 300 years, which always does make me smile. Love those girls.

Oh boy OH BOY was it a good idea to wait to watch So I'm a Spider, So What?. Just finished episode 9 and HO MAI GOD shit just took a major leap!

Loving 86 but aye that major be grating on my nerves more and more. I can't tell if she is just genuinely naive or just dumb for plots sake so things have more gravity when they get revealed.

I finally watched the Senki Zesshou Symphogear specials. They were all so silly. I can never get enough of the discourse between Kirika and Shirabe.

Currently watching the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan OVAs, now watched until the Yoma Hashimoto arc.

As much as everyone seems to meme the shit out of the occasions where Araki's writing went a bit too crazy with memes like "Araki forgot LOL", one thing that I can give props to Araki's writing over time was that he knows how to craft intense scenes featuring characters fighting and struggling without needing to use excessive punching, shooting or gore. By watching these OVAs, it's genuinely impressive when even something possibly mundane like "trying to throw popcorn to the air and catches it by your mouth" or "exercising running on a treadmill" can be intense and filled with nerve-wracking tension of wherever or not the characters can make it out alive.

Not only that but I also kinda like the way horror-related themes are implemented in these OVAs. Rather than just being jump scares and gore, these OVAs do show that Araki's horror-themed storytelling methods rely more on good suspense, creepy implications, tapping into real human emotions or concepts, and turning them on their head can also just be as effective.

While I would love for the Stone Ocean anime to come out ASAP, these short OVAs are still a good watch and showcases Araki's more experimental horror storytelling skills quite well.

meanwhile it's been 6 years since the last Idolm@ster anime was released. So I should be expecting a new OVA in 2-3 years.

Can anyone tell me the name of this new anime series that came out like a month or so ago. I came across people mentioning it on TikTok. They were all saying it can't be that good, but after watching the first episode(?), they were all surprised at how great it was and could possibly be the best or one of the best anime ever made... IDK... I just want to check it out. Pretty sure its a series.

Way too broad of a description to pinpoint.
