What the hell does that mean ?
If something was made in the 90s then it can't possibly sucessful ?
Yeah it wasn't big but your original comment implied TF never left the 80s until Bayformers which is completely incorrect
1: the argument wasn't about quality, it was about commercial and popularity success
2: even if it was about quality, well are you gonna tell me Bayformers is good ? Im not saying you can't praise anything about them but are you gonna tell me the whole package is majorly good ?
Bayformers definetely expanded the audience, im one such case since the 07 movie was my introduction to the franchise, but to say it was te only one which did so and even saved the franchise from extinction ? Hell no, Beast Wars is more deserving of the latter label which also me
    Thundercats maybe
but that is all beside the point, TF wasn't struggling with kids as those two even before Bayformers

Never said it was the only one please show me where I said that and the only reason I brought up beast wars being in the 90s is because the time gap transformers could have easily died in the 90s after beast wars especially with the unicron trilogy

It's precisely what you imply by saying TF was stuck in the 80s until Bayformers came to save it
Except the UT and specially Beast Wars did anything but put the franchise at the brink of death again

No, because Beast Wars ended in 99 and car robots was in 2000.

I don't even buy the whole "Bayverse saved TF" thing but even if, even if that were the case that wouldn't somehow change how objectively poor and low quality the films are.

It was one season because only one season was made in Japan for Hasbro to dub over. It doesn't change the fact that RID sold so well the toyline lasted till 2003 and the UT was selling so much in Armada and Cybertron that they had to release old Beast Wars toys to keep up with demand, and the Dreamwave/early-IDW comics were selling extremely well. Transformers was far from dead when the movies showed up, it was nothing like it was during G2.

I don’t disagree with you, only problem is for me, Bumblebee was a copy paste hybrid of Iron Giant / ET dressed with with a transformers suite.

Bumblebee did great on the less is more concept

I do think after 5 consecutive "swings for the fences", looking to hit a clean single or double with Bumblebee was a pretty good way to go. It was definitely less ambitious and its inspirations were clear, but it was still a solid movie. I would like to see future TF movies experiment with different scopes, not every single one has to have the fate of the world at stake. I feel like there was a version of AOE which could have been like this.

    1. Making more money =/= "saving the brand". Again, they wouldn't have risked a movie if the brand needed saving.
    2. That chart is in millions. So before the movie the merchandise only made 125,000,000. Which is still a lot.

Plus you have to take into account what was good then may not have been good now, considering enough people got fed up with the movies that it made the movies the financial mess for Hasbro and Paramount and is a part of the reason everything is G1 at the moment.

It's because of tf4 and 5 that oversaturated the defects of the other movies. If they had stopped in the 3rd like was planned the franchise wouldn't be in this mess, but Hasbro didn't want to stop there so they got what they wanted

Maybe hasbro had no say over the movies. It’s their ip but paramount was the one who had control of everything and they brought Michael bay for more.Dotm made 1.1 billion and like they say “if it aint broke don’t fix it”.They thought that michael bay formula is the reason the movies will make money until they were proven wrong. Now they have no choice but to make good movies or they lose their biggest franchise ever.Hasbro now has control of the movies also.

Honestly I don't know how Bumblebee made it all better. The first issue about the movies are the focus in a human and not in the robots, and we saw even less robot story and focus in Bumblebee movie. The difference I say is that movie wasn't cringe and didn't have many stupid things. And one thing I don't like, Bumblebee was a pet during most part of the movie. I'd say it hit in not making it so boring in the human part, bcs damn when I watch rotf I get sick of the time Optimus dies until some good fucking action starts again. And see Sam running around there with his girlfriend is just painful. But again, I don't see much improvements in the BB movie besides taking the fucking bad, painful things off the movie

I believe Bay made the other movies fucking bad bcs he was fucking tired of that. I mean, there is no other explication for tlk. A movie like that can only be made if people were aiming to make that bad

In anyway, what difference makes if it's Hasbro or Paramount in control? Both just want to make money in anyway

You know... what I really appreciated about the Michael Bay Movies?

    The Trailers!

The Trailers were so badass they really hooked me into watching the movies. Especially the first 3.

Yeah, I feel like the best trailers were for ROTF and DOTM. I can remember everyone flipping out over the driller destroying the building, lol. Man, I also miss those Transformers' trailer reaction videos.

I can recall, there was one YouTuber by the name of the Ragin Nation, and he would always have the funniest and absurd reactions to things. He practically levitated off his chair when watching the trailer for DOTM.
