I have to be honest here...if it had anything other than his stupid G1 seat face, I'd be disappointed...lol...

That’s a pretty myopic generalization. CHUG doesn’t have a consistent aesthetic, nor does it typically share stylistic characteristics with the early toys. What we’re talking about here is literal G1 reproductions with modern articulation. That means chrome, yellow eyes, sometimes clunky proportions, etc. Not comic book heroes in plastic form.

Perhaps Hasbro could introduce a CHUG line that legitimately homages the original figures but with better engineering and articulation, but so far they haven’t really done so. WFC and the current Generations Selects (modern CHUG) are much more aligned with the animation models.

If anything, the pre-Ironhide Masterpiece line evoked more G1 toy design elements than others, but was still a blend of toy and cartoon designs. And since Ironhide, it has shifted to a slavish animation aesthetic. Modern CHUG isn’t quite so extreme (at least there are a few details added for interest) but still leans heavily towards the cartoon.

IMO the best option would be new molds, still a bit of toy/toon hybrid, just with the styling a few notches more to the toy-like side of things.

For instance, give the Robot Masters Starscream a more toy-based deco and add knees and you've basically got your Seeker toy update right here. The arms are still formed from the center of the fuselage (like the original), and clearly look like it - his "biceps" have curvature similar to the original, rather than the boxy upper arms of the animation models. The tailfins work exactly like the G1 toy, and the nosecone hangs off the back, while still allowing proper head movement. This mold also has a much sleeker jet mode than either the Classics or ER Seeker. I'm actually disappointed that this design concept hasn't been revisited - it's better IMO than the Classics/ER concept. (I admit the execution, while great for the time, would need to be improved.)

This mold is very much "modernized G1", although not literally the G1 mold refitted with joints.

I think the line would have to be a very small assortment.

Prime obviously has to be done because of all the original art.

    I'd say Starscream similarly

Many characters are very close to toy currently, like Grimlock so these wouldn't be great choices.

If you could do 3, it would be
    Optimus Starscream Bumblebee

This Bumblebee could have been redone in legends easily.

Of course a lot of peoples Bumblebee looked like this, mine included:

    Bumblebeeg1toy.jpg

I'm now thinking, if they added articulation to these they'd have to increase their size by a 20%. Which brings them in line with current scales.

With Earthrise and Kingdom, I definitely have to say no to buying modernized G1 figures. Except Starscream, but that's just because I buy every Starscream.

That's why I mention upscaling of figures in my post, it would make things easier to be able to add the new articulation and would fall in line with the current Generations line.

You can disagree with the idea, but don't be rude about it. It also looks like you didn't understand my proposal since I'm not talking updating designs.

I understand there are a bunch of characters that need updating vs updating 80s toys to modern standards, and I agree, but it's not a vs thing. It would be a quirky, fun concept and IMO better than just straight up reissuing the old toys at $50 bucks, at least you'd be gaining more playability.

The image of Optimus Prime’s box art reminds me how I wish such a headsculpt were made for a modern figure. I love the elongated yellow optics and the thicker helmet antennae.

G1 figures are, on the whole, massively disproportionate, clunky, kibbly bricks and as far as I care, they can stay that way. Just buy either the reissues or Earthrise...

I regret not getting the reissue instead.

On topic: I have no faith that this feat could be achieved without aesthetic compromises that would alter the original to the point that I would not want them. I loved the first MPs, but they went toon. Aside from that, they’d be expensive if they include die cast and rubber tires. Worse if they’re upscaled. I’m not in the mood to start collecting another G1 line. I love the originals as they are... for display. I have modern versions to play with.

I'm probably dude number 9 to say this, but imho Siege\Earthrise\Kingdom are already what you're suggesting.

A few things I really want:

Earthrise Hound that actually looks like G1 Cartoon Hound
Earthrise Bumblebee since getting the Netflix one was tough
Earthrise Sideswipe, et al. Please take my money.
All of the mini-bots in WfC paradigm. We got Huffer already. Do Gears, Windcharger, Pipes, Outback, Cosmos, Beachcomber, Powerglide, and who else?
Siege Constructicons. Never been done. Cybertronian Constructicons that combine into Cybertronian Devastator. They just need to be green and purple alien vehicles that look industrial in nature and combine into a nice-looking titan. It can be six voyagers, that's $180, done.
Kingdom Methuselah Bots: Kingdom versions of Earthrise era Autobots. They can have "aging" decos applied, like moss or rust or whatever. The idea is they've been around since before the Maximal upgrade and maintain their "guzzler" bodies so they can provide perspective and wisdom from their respective era. A time-worn Perceptor, Alpha Trion, Maccadam\Alchemist Prime, and other wise old bots would be well received in this sub-line.

Actually, it isn't at all what he's suggesting. He's suggesting refitting the G1 molds to be more posable. Or new molds designed to emulate the toys, rather than the animation models. WFC does a good job of updating the animation models, but Sunbow took a lot of liberties with the source material.

It's not what I'm suggesting at all. WFC are updates to the characters just like all the previous CHUG figures. I'm suggesting taking the original G1 toys and adding more points of articulation and fixing a few things, like having Grimlock's bot head slide forward so its even with the shoulders.

Ratchet and Ironhide (and the majority of the orginal TF's) were from a line called Diaclone, and the included 1'' tall pilots sat on the chair behind the windsheild (the pic below is from Maz's Transformers Square One site, and the photo is his as well)

They were drawn the way we know them for the comics and the cartoon after the fact (with the exception of like... the the frist frame in the comics where the Autobots are given earth modes).

Nop and Generations has nothing to do with it. Generations completely redesigned some bots (especially earlier iterations). Yes there is no missing what character he is supposed to be, but there are critical differences most of the time, to make them stand alone entities.

Articulated G1 figures would make what to younger eyes look 'weird' weirder still. I have seen some modifications to G1 Optimus Primes and G1 Power Master Optimus and while I love these toys with all my heart, I wanted to vomit.

Same reason the Dinobots and Insecticons have clear-canopied cockpits for pilots— in Diaclone, these were just war vehicles, not sentient life forms. It always surprised me that they didn’t use opaque plastics on the Transformers figures.
