Apparently all the big game tech leakers are saying that Nintendo is revealing the Switch Pro either today or tomorrow.

They also state that the current model will be discontinued and Switch Pro will be more than 300 dollars. Possibly as early as September for release.

While I'm doubtful, I'm super hopeful this is true.

No reason at all to think it is, honestly. We're kind of in the middle of a global chip shortage, after all. Why would you try to start production of your new console now when the old one is still selling like gangbusters?

    This increasingly interests me.

This could be a more general purpose Mario Maker basically and that's really exciting. I wish they'd stop using friend-code-like systems, but it is an at least functional way to share with people I suppose at the end of the day.

As to the Switch Pro rumors, it's the discontinuation of the current models that makes me super skeptical (among other reasons.) They have numerous games already announced for the base Switch SKUs that are already out, and continue to announce new colors for Switch Lites and the like. It seems very unlikely they'd just abandon it at this point. Huge install base to to let go of, too, from a third party (and first party really) support standpoint.

More likely imo is that when and if the new model arrives, we'll just have the best versions of games on that model (much like the other consoles now have two or three models supported at one time with cross-platform ports) and maybe occasionally some truly exclusive games to try to drive adoption. But I think even that's questionable. We'll see though.

I hope to god that the rumors of the new switch not being called the “switch pro” is true. It’s be extremely annoying that it would have to share the name of its competitors.

No one knows anything meaningful about it, least of all its name. There's hints here and there that Nintendo is working on SOMETHING, and it'd be in line with what Nintendo does with their handhelds (but not their consoles, so far) but anyone pretending to know the name is just some idiot trying to get clout on the internet because for some reason videogame rumor monger is a valuable place to be?

Haven't Nintendo released revamped editions of most of their consoles? Off the top of my head I can remember the revamped NES, SNES and Wii at least.

I was talking about consoles because the poster I was replying to said Nintendo revamps their handhelds but not their consoles. For handhelds you could also include the Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Advance Micro, DSLite, DSi, 3dsXL, New 3ds, New 3dsXL and New 2dsXL at a minimum.

They made a smaller compact form of the NES, SNES and Wii, that was it for main systems. Nothing else sold well enough to justify a redesign.

The Super Nintendo was basically a revamped NES. The name alread says it, but it never occured to me that they really meant it :lol
It's like the New 3DS to the DS, but without backwards compatibility.

I think they mean the NES II/New Style NES that was a top loader that played NES games and came out before the SNES. It's similar in concept to the New Style SuperNES.

They released simplified/smaller versions of the NES, SNES, and Wii later in their life. The revamped Wii very notably lost functionality in the form of losing Gamecube compatibility and, IIRC, internet connectivity. I think they used a cheaper/worse graphics chip in the SNES revision and the late model NES only had RF out. It's their handhelds that get the upgrades. Gameboy Color, GBA SP (kind of), DSi, 3ds XL, etc. Everyone is just assuming the Switch is going to follow that trend and the trend that the PS4 and X-Box One set for consoles.

I'd be more down for that since "Advance" already has some history within Nintendo.
