I sure am glad this toy just appeared out of thin air like magic! It certainly looks nice and I look forward to getting one.
I rather like it. It does feel a bit more "updated G1 toy" than "remake the cartoon visual" to me though, not that that's necessarily bad, mind you. I think those who are chafing at replacing their TR sharkies might be looking at this the wrong way. If you already have TR and/or Cyberverse Sharkticons, just put 'em all together for a whole ecosystem of Sharkticons, from SS86 or even G1 versions, down to the little doot-doot baby sharks that came with that Cyberverse Hot Rod set. "Why don't Grimlock or Sl(a)g come with their swords?" "Because they didn't have swords in the 1986 movie! This SS86 line is all about accuracy! It would be idiotic to give them accessories they didn't use on screen!" LATER: "Hey cool! SS86 Sharkticons come with a big gun based on the G1 toy!!" (everyone who was talked down to roll their eyes)
They held the mace in their hands as they World War Z'd their way up the wall to get to the Quintessons.
Is it just me or do his Sharkticon legs look oddly placed too far back in Sharkticon mode? I still got my 3 on Preorder it won't affect my purchase. it's just weird looking to me in that regard. also looks so weird without his head antennae.
Other figures may have more features, be more popular characters, or be larger. But is there a Studio Series figure more adorable than Gnaw? My answer: (G)naw! ... I'll show myself out.
He seems like a heavy Allicon Re-shell. I like him a lot, despite his weird proportions in Sharkticon mode. Edit: nevermind. very different.
There are no shared parts between Gnaw and the Allicons. They were just vaguely similar in the movie, so that carries over to the toys as well.
That was actually my first impression, too, since I didn't bother picking up the Allicon, so I was only going off of vague memory. The screencaps from the review certainly set me straight right fast.
It's an unfortunate visual trick being played by his transformation scheme.. You're seeing his bot mode shoulders as his beast mode hips, when it's actually his bot mode ELBOWS that are meant be in that role. More like Grimlock and Slug don't come with their swords because they are already LARGE Leader class toys, while Gnaw comes with his gun because he's a minibot Deluxe. Same as Cliffjumper, or Huffer coming with a bunch of accessories to make up for their small size, Gnaw gets his tail and his gun.
Oops. I don't think I've ever mentally registered that fact, since they're never really shown brandishing them as weapons. I guess they just... happen to be holding them in a scene. Alrighty then.
Nice! He’ll be big enough to look like an actual threat facing off against other deluxes. The Legends version I have as Wheelie’s pet scales well already. And the three colors of the Hasbro version, my other Legends one, and the Pit of Judgement one look good together in the Sharkticon pit! The only question is how many I need, three or maybe just one? Enough for a revolt-against-the-Quintessons scene?
Didn't this already sell out at a few places like Amazon? I ordered mine a few days ago and I noticed it was sold out on a few sites already.
Sweet! Have one pre-ordered on Pulse, and one on Amazon. Was going to cancel one, but looks like I will keep both!
