"I was, a year ago, just before my birthday last year, in February, I was bored and flipping through to find something to watch on all the streaming channels. I flipped over to one of the free ones, Tubi, and I saw Beast Wars on there. And I said, I've never seen this, I think I'll check it out."

    Sounds about right.

I absolutely hate this version of Dinobot. The show's rendition made sense. He had Predacon sensibilities, but a nagging sense of honor. You could understand how he was a Pred, and you never doubted it even as you saw him evolve into a more heroic character over time.

This version makes no sense as a Predacon. He's a Maximal with the wrong badge. It's not even that it's different, it that it's boring. There isn't any tension in their philosophies. He has no room to grow, or be influenced by his peers to a different worldview.

This is the danger of revisiting characters like this in such similar setups. It feels forced and unearned.

I'm bored. I need something new and interesting to sink my teeth into, or I'm better off rewatching my dvds. Do better, IDW Beast Wars!

That said, one of the Maximals is a traitor. Rhinox is our prime suspect. Because Tankor and Beast Machines, but also because he's the one who blows it off when Cheetor brings it up. Evil Rhinox, or even gray Rhinox, would at least be something interesting, if not new.

That isn't in the book. It was a first attempt drawing. We'll see how it looks as he practices the character more.

Any headcanons/theories on what took place before this version of Beast Wars? Like the G1 show precedes the original show, does IDWs original G1 continuity precede these? I know there were some BW characters in those comics but from what I know they didn't do...much. Maybe it's after the current comics? I dunno.

maybe the future of the marvel comics? dont really have enough info to make much of a guess at this point

unfortunatly, if u remember, hearts of steel was retconned as being part of IDW, the brainwashed maximals under onyx/shockwave were those autobots and decepticons

Precisely, which is why it's not out of question for them to jump the gun and connect it to IDW 1.0

Naturally, every single detail will be part of Shockwave's Great Big Plan, so don't ask any questions!

Yeah I think the Maximals were done dirty in the old continuity. If I had to headcanon how that might've been undone it's either they were recreations of the characters he saw in a future timeline, clones, or whatever shenanigans he pulled were undone Endgame style through more time travel shenanigans. I haven't finished the original IDW series yet (I'm on Phase 1 Vol. 2 of the IDW collections) so if anyone has finished that and can weigh in lemme know.

if they do introduce ravage like the series, i'd love if he wasn't alone; the comics and toyline had laserbeak and buzzsaw as also being rebuilt as preds. so would be cool the preds and maxs think he's just a lone agent then boom, there's a whole crew of cons turned preds.

I always thought the Classics Grimlock redeco into Overkill would make for an ideal Beast Era version of the character.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I feel like Flash Lio Convoy could easily be repurposed as a Maximal version of Steeljaw.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before but does anyone know what this is about? I was looking at my comics preview and saw a different artist. Winston Chan. Is Josh only doing the first six parts?

We're alternating arcs! Winston is stepping in for issues 7-8 [Blackarachnia!] so I can get a jump on the next one.

I know it seems like there's a lot of plodding around but, even Erik's eluded to this/said as much in interviews; its been more Hasbro's decision, i think, to start off like this ie 'familiar territory/broadstrokes the first few episodes of the show' but stuff starts to ramp up in these next couple issues. 5 has some great conversations between Dinobot/Nyx/Optimus about everything, that I think will speak to some "why's" i've seen asked, and 6 goes off in an interesting way that I think will intrigue people about the future. And future issues stray even further into our own territory that i'm really excited to explore; Skold gets some spotlight, maybe some new characters showing up??

Hopefully you'll feel encouraged to stick it out a little more. It is a little bit of a slow burn here, i'll admit, but the path ahead gets pretty interesting, I think, once we get passed this first arc "threshold," as it were.

Oh neat, thanks for the info! I'm enjoying it so far and always have been salivating for new content of my favorite transformer series. I adore these characters and it's almost surreal to actually see them in action again. Keep up the good work! And feel free to print lol
