Dialing things down to normal is what got us the Netflix series. It doesn't hurt to have a little insanity every now and then.

I actually really like the detail that the (seemingly in charge) Quintesson that found the planet the matrix landed on and then turned into Cybertron looks a good amount like Hot Rod.

It plays into the idea from the marvel comics that Hot Rod resembles Primus due to "nepotism", and stretches it further to tie in with the Quintessons as well.

Granted it's a weird freaking color scheme for a Quintesson. They're not really known for warm colors.

 

Yeah, I like the extended/conflated origin of the Quintessons, Primacron, Unicron, other robotic races and and Primus himself. Its an origin which combines all of the origins (and weird artifact of the cartoon continuity) into a single coherent one and I wish we could see it again. Then again I'm quite the fan of the Quintesson origin despite how unpopular it is. We get to see the entity which TFwiki calls 'It' and we also get to see that it's full body is similar to the Floro Dery Quintessons. This create an interesting implication about the Season 3 transformers design by Dery as they seem to imply a connection to Primus, Primacron an/or Unicron (see: Hot Rod, the Junkions as of this comic and the Unicron herald trio).

Could this perhaps indicate the more organic-looking Floro Dery Transformers designs are ancient pre-war designs/technology which went 'out of style' on Cybertron during the Autobot vs Decepticon war? That would make for an interesting retcon as we do see it happen to a well known character: when Orion Pax (a Dery design) become the blocky, iconic Optimus Prime? This is the weird implications I get from this comic or maybe my brain overloaded from the continuity cavalcade.

 

Takara doesn't do normal levels any more. They leave that to Hasbro.

 

Pretty much. They know Hasbro will just keep playing it safe with '84-'86 (and now, briefly, Beast Wars) nostalgia. Hasbro has increasingly made it clear that being as basic, safe, reliable and marketable is what makes them money rather than take too many risks.

 

Well this was a fun story, laughing a bit at the people finding this stuff too convoluted to understand like...you guys really haven't read a lot of comic books have you? Hope they continue to do more, and would like to see most of these comic only repaints to get made in a sort of selects line, wouldn't buy all of them, but there's definitely a good few standouts I'd want to pick up.

It's not even that Hasbro plays it safe, it's just as long as there's Hasbro and also IDW comics and the movies working on the "normal" stuff to plot out the toylines already, there's no need for TakaraTomy to invest in anything too serious.

 

That's because the whole Sideways shenanigans isn't a Japanese thing. In Japanese continuity Double Face and Noisemaze are completely separate characters and not meant to be the same character (Noisemaze in particular is supposed to hint at his connection with Soundwave).

 

Oh damn, I didn't even recognize that he was supposed to be "It". That explains how he's the first entity connected to the matrix, and why he has a Quintesson-esque skull face

 

Honestly I really like this, because iirc 'It' predate other Transformers inside the Matrix doesn't he?

 

Yeah, all the cartoon stated was that he was the first entity in general to be tied to the matrix, while I believe Alpha Prime was the first Cybertronian to yeild it, followed by Prima (though the G1 cartoon Prima was only named that retroactively, like Sentinel)

 

Well now we know. And knowing is half the battle.

 

That's pretty cool.

When it comes to G1, the Japanese love to retcon things. That's why Car Robots, which originally had zero to do with G1, suddenly out of nowhere got shoehorned into it for reasons which still elude me.  

 

I thought T-Wrecks was a good guy?
