It sounds like you need to let go of giving a shit about how upset other people are over this crap. Replacing one pet peeve with another isn't really productive.
That makes no sense. I am trying to understand why there is so much hate, not giving a shit about it personally half the time. Every damn time I come onto this forum excited about something all I find are pages of negative complaints and bitching. The discussion has devolved into ONLY speaking negatively about something. Nobody is positive anymore. Why? Is it because we've been cooped up for a year dealing with restrictions that half the damn world can't be arsed to agree with? Is the political upheaval of the past four years turning us all into beings of pure hatred? Did somebody unleash the Hate Plague on Earth again? I mean seriously. All anybody does is complain, complain, complain and I'm getting tired of trying to be positive in the face of all this negativity. Collecting is becoming less fun the more I participate, it's like we've all flipped the switch and are suffering anger and disgust or something at the stuff we used to like. What changed? Was it age? Why must we all be angry all the time? Hearing the word Exclusive used to be fun, it was always cool to see what clever creative idea they came up with to make a new character. Now whenever I hear exclusive all I can think is, time to get the riot gear again to deal with all the collectors and scalpers in the city. Or online. Have we all turned into our parents who just hated everything when we were younger? It's all so disheartening.
On this we agree. I have bought every Con exclusive (well the toys) for I don’t know how long. Yeah this is a little shitty mostly cause I like the weird stuff more AND THE PACKAGING but this whole thing is a big whatever. It’s great that MOTU has this must interest right now. I hardly think Indian Faker and some Grayskull parts that were cardboard originally are “essential pieces” or Power-Con was “scummy” to sell them this way. I’ll probably end up getting wrecked on the secondary market mostly cause I want the exclusive packaging. DupliCat and the Grayskull parts will probably get a broader release in different colors. I predict a... Battle Armor Faker with DupliCat - Probably different color, probably with Battle Cats headpiece in orange. But no to Leo Faker as a general release. And a Grayskull expansion set with the other Weapons Rack, Tentacles (different color) and the “Spirit of Grayskull” in a different clear plastic, or more likely “glow in the dark.”
The org is an insane place. I left back when I was chased out of a thread for questioning why someone got a lawyer to attack Mattel because their wind raider didn’t come with the front winch tied down every since about 2012-2014 people started losing their minds about MOTU over there.
Man sadly it’s not just collecting. Have you been paying attention to any type of online interaction nowadays? The polite people appear in the limited minority. Everyone is filled with hate and not only that but people actively seek it out. Hatred for the “other,” and feeling like one should get what they want—nay, deserve—immediately is just poisoning people. Ironically the internet, which was seen as a way to bring people together, has polarized folks into snarky, sad, suspicious, unhappy individuals who become irate when someone doesn’t adore the exact piece of plastic, politics, sports team, musical act, restaurant, or cloud shape that they do.
Haha, and when that happens all the vitriol currently directed toward Power Con will whiplash around at Mattel for making rare convention exclusives available to the masses at lower prices. Thank you! Needed him, got him!
From the first time I saw that I was like.... huh, “clear is an odd choice....” Rubin has shown himself to be exceedingly clever. I can’t imagine if you put a few designers in a room on MOTU and decided to make the spirit effect on the top of the castle you’d go for clear. Of course you’d go glow-in-the-dark. You can see it easier with the lights on..... and what’s more gimmicky and 80’s than glow-in-the-dark. It seem pretty obvious to me. And I can tell you from Power-Con shipping, Mattel with probably announce the set a few months from now and it will still get here ahead on the non-attendee power-con exclusive shipping process.
The word "exclusive" is only fun when there's a defined, guaranteed process for getting it. Ie. Walk into a Target and pick one of 50 "destined to be clearanced" items. Go to a website that has plenty in stock. The Shattered Glass Pulse exclusives are a great example. Produced in quantities where there's still 400 Megatrons left in stock a month after the launch.
Yeah, I've not once found the idea of exclusives fun. The only upside to them was that there used to be a whole lot less of them by comparison across the different lines. It just seems like the number of exclusives in today's market is not only excessive, but the quantities are a lot more limited than they used to be. Don't know if that's because stores are ordering less, there are more collectors/scalpers/etc. fighting for figures, or all of the above. No matter the case... it sucks.
I couldn't go back there if I wanted for now. Seems like between when I last logged and when I recently logged in and changed my email setting since my old one no longer exists, they have some weird "only have 1 free email account registration, if you want another, consider paying the 30 dollar donation package" or something. So my account can't do basic things like post or email mods. Just seems like more trouble than it's worth figuring out, so I guess I'm better off getting my MOTU and Sword and Sorcery fix with my TFW peeps here. (Not counting this as against the "off-website drama rule", tech issues are not drama, just an annoyance.).
Finally found Panthor! Today was the first time I’d seen one in the store. Still haven’t seen the flocked version.
