As much as I dont really like the design, I still cant deny that the promotional images they have done for it are glorious.

 

I thought it was gonna be a remold, without partfotming, i can pass the headmaster gimmick (i don't like it), there's something that doesn't work to me, I'll wait another 3P who make a better Nightbeat, if it's the idw design would be better haha

 

Speaking of repaints, my order for the MB-12B Wheel Blade repaint arrived today from Chosen Prime. Just a gorgeous alternative rendition of this mould!

 

Anyone know how prompt Fans Hobby usually is with releases, and/or how long shipping usually takes from their direct website? This is tempting, but I'm moving in like two months and don't want to order something that won't arrive in time.

 

I ordered Commander from their website and it took 11 days to get to me after it shipped.

 

Fans Hobby advised me a couple of days ago they planned to ship this guy out this week.

 

Awesome! Looking forward to getting him! Though, I am struggling on where to put him. I try to theme my shelves, and the closest would be Masterforce shelf. However Minerva is already there. Oh well!

 

I'll be putting him with Masterforce. He'll the "brother" of Minerva and their Windblade.

 

Hoping the quality is better than Minerva. My copy had cracked hinges fresh out of the box. Especially disappointing considering how sturdy my other Fanshobby figures are.

 

So, the time to decide is close now.

I really want a Headmaster Nightbeat. It's a gap in my collection. And the size is about right for me -- not so big as Maketoys their headmasters.

But I just don't see Nightbeat when I look at the pictures. It's his colours, yes, but it's not his body design. Due to the completely opposite way the figure transforms, he ends up with the wrong shape and details for the legs and arms, while the only thing that appears about right is the chest and head. The cost cutting really hurts. It's basically the Siren/Go-Shuta body design in Nightbeat his colours. And especially next to the eventual Siren this will look wrong. (Maybe I can fudge it a bit by rotating the shoulder pieces down...)

Honestly, in the past I used Cybertron Hot Shot as Nightbeat and I think that looks more like the character than this. There was also a custom Nightbeat from Titan Chromedome and that looked more like Nightbeat. Combiner Wars Smokescreen would also make a better base for the character.

But I doubt we will ever get another 3rd party Nightbeat.

 

This may have already been discussed but will this guy partsform like Athena?

Right there with ya. Been wanting a good Nightbeat for so long, and yet...

I think I most often steer myself right when I collect with my heart, and most often go wrong when I buy figures I feel like I "should" buy. When I see a figure and just WANT it, I usually wind up happy, even if I can't explain why I want it, or even could explain reasons I shouldn't buy it.

I don't feel that spark with this release. We could sit here all day parsing the design decisions and looking at ref images, but at the end of the day, it's this simple: I look at it, and I feel nothing.

So I think it's a pass for me. Maybe someday somebody will make the Marvel-accurate one I crave. Or maybe they won't. But either way, I don't think this one will make me happy.
