A sample of the stuff Timm got away with...

Ah, when you could slip stuff into cartoons and no one would mind because they could enjoy it too...

Though I admit that Timm took things too far between Batgirl and Batman. Bruce once thought of Gordon as the closest to his father.

Now would that be all on Timm or the writers as well?

Bruce Timm, much more than George Lucas, is an example of someone who benefits from having externally imposed limitations. Things he and his staff could sneak past BS&P were small and harmless. Things he directly fought them on had to be worth it. Lift the limitations and some people will bog stuff down with excessive and sometimes questionable world building. Give Bruce Timm free reign, and he goes full-on leering Dirty Old Man with it.

Normally JJ Abrams' name would make me run for the hills, but Matt Reeves did the Planet of the Apes Sequels, and I trust Bruce Timm to not let JJ run rampant with his mystery boxes.
The cover oddly looks a lot like the very first, purple-gloved, gun-using Batman. Curious!
At any rate I am far more interested in this than that weird Superman-Lois-Jimmy show the She-ra creator is making.

Eh, I'd still rather have that than... well, whatever agenda certain modern toons have. 'cause it's mostly harmless. We grew up on these shows and apart from becoming avid plastic crack addicts we turned out fine, no? :p

Seriously. Apparently, we can’t have the freedom to make content, but we’re too mean on cartoons like Aquaman Dribble.

This show might be cool. I dunno. I'm still bitter we never got more of Beware the Batman. I hope they go full Golden Age with this. With that, I mean show Golden Age versions of Joker, Catwoman, and Hugo Strange, as well as foes from that era like Mad Monk, the Monster Men, and Dr. Death.

    She's not.

The Superman show isn't being done by Noel Stevenson. It looks like it's being headed up by Josie Campbell who was the lead writer on She-Ra and Camp Cretacious.

She's also co-producing with Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher, so it's a team effort. Noelle Stevenson is working on Lumberjanes. I thought this was known already.

Yeah, I mean there's always more than one person involved in these projects. I was just pointing out that the only person from She-Ra that's involved (at least as far as I'm currently aware) is Campbell.

I really don't get the complaint about her being involved with the show. I mean yeah I get the new She-Ra wasn't to everyone's taste, but it had its fans and did well enough, so what's the big deal?

Batman: Caped Crusader Video Takes You Behind the Scenes of the New Animated Series

The show follows the lead of Reeves' The Batman in presenting a younger Batman who hasn't quite earned the trust of Commissioner Gordon yet and is still developing his relationships with future allies and enemies.

Tucker noted that Batman will begin the series very low tech but will develop gadgets and different iterations of the Batmobile over the course of the series.

Reeves said, "In this new iteration, it's just Batman right now... The Justice League doesn't exist, there aren't any other superheroes, it's just Batman. You're watching this lone figure swimming through the cesspool of Gotham. It's Batman alone." Timm emphasizes, "He's Batman, whether he's wearing the mask or not, and Bruce Wayne is a phony person, he's a construction Batman has created to deflect suspicion from his activities." Abrams described the show as "a complex psychological story about someone who, in a way, needs to be redeemed," at least as far as the first season is concerned.

Timm's Batman: Strange Days short, made to celebrate the character's 75th anniversary, was used as a model for Caped Crusader's film noir visual style, though Caped Crusader won't be in black-and-white -- "unless I can talk Bruce into doing a special episode," Tucker added.

This is probably the only new DC show/movie I am interested in. But, I can't even say I am interested in it yet, since I haven't even seen a trailer, and it appears to be no where close to that. Not if that video behind the scenes, is showing clips from the old shows instead of ones from the new show. So, until I see it animated, I guess I'll wait to see if I'll want to watch it.

I'm hopefully optimistic for the sole reason of Timm's elevator pitch of this being "more BTAS than BTAS", that he says he gets to do what he wants to do this time without the limitations he was working under in the early 90s on BTAS.

Timm getting to do what he wants to do unrestrained is more bad than good.

Eh, I'll have to see an episode or two before I say anything for sure. Other than that I know I'm not the biggest fan of the idea of keeping a 40's aesthetic to the world.

Considering his little addition to the Killing Joke and the lackluster Batman and Harley Quinn film... I'm not so sure that Bruce Timm having "free reign" to "do what he wants" is as good a thing as some people who seem to forget that there were other people involved with BTAS think it is.

I don't know about that specifically but a good example of having too much freedom at the helm is when George Lucas made the PT. So this could turn out poorly. We'll see.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I hope there's gonna be somebody that will keep Bruce Timm's weirdness in check. That being said, the aesthetic of this show sounds very promising.

While his misses in other one off projects are indicative of potential problems, his ideas for a BTAS style series could work well.

To play devil's advocate, we're 30 years after BTAS' debut and Timm isn't the same person he was then. I'm sure his ideas have at least morphed somewhat over the decades. Also, what he wanted to do with BTAS in the 90s may not work today.

I'm prepared for the worst but hoping for the best.

Not enough here to really comment on. Though I would have liked to have seen a lot less of JJ Abrams. You can also tell certain parts where it looks like they are reading from a prepared statement and not speaking naturally.

Timm is great with visuals, but story is not his thing, if they had say Paul Dini in the trailer, that would have filled me with more confidence. JJ is usually a warning sign, though he's likely less involved and it's more of a Matt Reeves show. So it will come down to the trailer if when we finally see it.

I'm not one to usually comment on looks, but older Bruce Timm looks like he's going to offer expensive baubles and world peace and unconditional love, wrapped in a big bow.
