It's like the universe just couldn't handle MP-47's sheer level of perfect toon accuracy without any major compromises. It took one look at Hound's flawless, clean body and was like "fuck, I'd better knock that guy down a peg". Often I find myself screaming up at the sky "Why, universe, why couldn't you have done this to MP-51 instead?" But the universe just laughs.
My KO's paint issues aren't NEARLY that bad. Granted I don't do the fine-toothed comb thing for paint, but there are many noticeable defects on Malckav's copy that mine doesn't have. Like I said, there's some poor paint apps on his thighs (and it's mainly on the back and sides, where it bothers me less) and that's about it. So it might be a YMMV type of thing. The important thing, to me, was that it didn't break or feel like it was gonna break.
I'll take a few minor paint defects, and some visible sprew marks over brittle plastic that cracks if you even look at it funny.
I dont quite get why some people are going over these things with a microscope looking for any imperfection, I can see one little mark on the legs of mine and thats it, I'm sure I could find more if I went over it with a magnifying glass but Im equally sure I would find plenty of imperfections in Takara offerings too (especially in this mold....)
My copy is trapped in the black hole that is Avenel, NJ. Been sitting there for days and is somehow expected to be delivered tomorrow. We shall see. I'll be reporting in on the quality of it when it gets here to add to the rest of you.
Bleh Mine is....disappointing. Couple of paint marks on thighs. But the main issue is the shoulders don't tab in. I watched the transformation video of the official and the shoulder bit is meant to swing out then push and click into place, holding them secure. However, the bit on my copy that lets this piece rotate is well, not loose, but too low? It's like 1mm too low on the post that it rotates on at the front of the jeep (although doesn't move up or down), so when it pushes into the body, there is a slight gap, and it can't fully click into place. It holds poses but just comes untabbed if you mess with it. I'll have another mess around but i can't see any way to improve the tab in connection for the shoulders
Mine is in the states arrived in Chicago yesterday so I'm guessing I will get it this weekend or next week as I'm in the Detroit area
The lady have die cast too of which Hound had none So far my MP-51 is almost perfect, lots of paint apps and it feels very premium.
sucks so many examples are pretty poor quality. KOs had come so far in the last few years and largely had shaken off the image of shoddy qc, poor copies, etc... especially when the TT figures had gone to the toilet. I have two KO MP-47s coming.. hopefully one is nice.
I received my KO Hound today. Both modes really well done and only one tiny paint blemish on the left thigh. Everything went into place with little to no trouble. I really have no complaints!
The face sculpt has definitely lost a bit of definition in the KO process, especially around the eyes, but nice to see the figure without brittle plastic issues. I still don't know why TT haven't reissued the figure themselves given how bad the first run turned out. All they had to do was change the plastic formula. And what happened to the G1 toy/ Detritus repaint they teased with the big gun.
I'm surprised by that one too. I would have even bought the official again if they had reissued it with the problems fixed!
What a great transformation! I've spent the last hour playing around and transforming Hound for the first time. My KO had two issues. 1. The very tip of the gun on the rear of the Jeep. It comes in 3 parts which are meant to fold up tight so they fit inside his foot. (wow!) That third piece on the end had a little extra "ring" of plastic right around the joint where it pins to the middle piece. Therefore out of the box the rear gun wouldn't fold up tight enough to fit in the foot. I took a quick look at Emgo's JTI video to see that he was getting his gun to fold up much more compact. A little X-Acto knife action later and I trimmed the offending extra "ring" off the top half at least so it would fold all the way. 2. The shoulders. The left shoulder fit up and gave a satisfying little pop once it snapped into place. But the right shoulder would not snap and kept falling down. After wrestling for 5 or 10 minutes trying to force the shoulder up I could tell that it just couldn't make it over top that little "speed bump" that the shoulder is supposed to snap on. I took off an ever so thin (less than a page out of a bible) off the bump and after two more tries I got the satisfying little snap and the right shoulder is now sturdy as can be. I mean it; if your shoulders will not lock into place because the bump is a little too thick you really don't have to take off much material at all to make it work. If you take off a huge 1/32" thick slice then your bump will be too short and you'll never get your shoulders to lock. So I'd say $62 well spent. There are absolutely no cracks. Hound has a little trouble keeping the pistol WITH the hologram cone sticking up, but with just his pistol the arm stays posed. A little scratch on the left thigh and the yellow "belt" around his waist isn't perfect, but nothing major with the paint. The way the false tires wrap around to keep the feet closed tight is genius. I'd love more of these toon-magic transformations and look forward to my MP-52 pre-order next month.
I guess I just need to remember that famous Galdalf quote: "Many figures that are made of great plastic and die cast deserve to be made of soap. And some that are made of soap deserve great plastic and die cast. Can you give it to them?" At least I think that's how it went...
Yes! My KO has been sent by ShowZ.. now the wait begins. For now this will be the last KO I'll get. Not interested in the seekers nor Arcee.. Though on the fence about Skids, it doesn't really fit the current MP-line somehow. If one of those will get a KO version anyway.
Just checked and mine is at the post office, ready to come my way tomorrow! Well, today now... So excited!
Just got mine. Other then insanely loose hips (which I tightened with Kiki but had to take it apart to get to the spot I needed to tighten) and one loose arm (also tighten it up with Kiki) with the same paint issues most been having, it is a cool figure. Need to find a paint that matches the thighs to patch it up. Oh and one leg panel is perfect like the other one. Though so far this little team is looking good.
