It’s a slow burn... makes me a little anxious sometimes... but this line is so goddamn rewarding. So many sincere ‘wow’ moments with the MP and Reboot lines.

Haha yeah that was great! I went to Tokyo Toy Show that year and got to see the Soundwave prototype in person. Such a happy memory.

Favourite reveal? MP-01 or MP-09. So much speculation as to whether there was a Hot Rod mode with the latter.

Regardless of the eventual figure (which still has some charm imho) the grey resin prototype was something to behold.

Post MP-10, the Bumblebee/Wheeljack simultaneous confirmation was nice. Magnus wasn't far behind them either.

Hot Rod /Shockwave. Back then we didn't keep track of shows and FK like we do now so it was a legit boom to wake up to. Add in the fact they had just revealed the silhouette of Hot Rod in the figure king before, you know back when reveals were silhouettes and took up a square in the magazine

    Best surprise:

Hot Rod/Shocky (even though I vastly prefer 29+, that I still can't find for a decent price)

    Best OMG it's happening:

    MP 36. Period.

    Best full color reveal:

    44. Like, wow.

Best wow, they really did this against all odds:

    39.

Best reveal with a WTF moment because I didn't know how the transformation would work and thought TT was cheating somehow:

    33. Wizardly.

Best Jesus, maybe the sky is the limit with these mothereffers and maybe, I should stop buying 3P:

    ?? (MP Skyfire).

MP-12 (Sideswipe) is probably my favorite reveal. It seemed like it came out of nowhere. Back then (2012), Takara was more focused on the heavy hitters for its Masterpiece line (Primes 1 & 2, Megatron, Grimlock, Starscream, and Hot Rod). At the pace they were going, I was expecting the likes of Soundwave, Shockwave, Galvatron, Ultra Magnus, Bumblebee, and maybe Jetfire. Didn’t think we’d get the Autobot cars at all, because the sentiment among collectors at the time was that Alternators/Binaltech were filling that void.

For me MP-9 was the best reveal. Those first grey prototype images and the joy and excitement as people started to work out they'd engineered a Hot Rod and a Rodimus into the one figure, and all the work figuring out the transformation. Then when they finally showed off a painted version at the next toy show. Finally the Figure King features for him... What a great time that was.

Also biased because I'm a fanboy for the character :p

Any MP reveal that triggers a Bladerunner “pause, enhance” frenzy is a huge win in my book - feel like an archaeologist discovering Troy or some shit

Oh, yeah. I remember clearly,...seeing MP33 Inferno’s grey prototype pics. When the side photo revealed no ladder hanging off his back, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. TakaraTomy conjuring some serious black magic.

Can’t wait to see clear grey prototype pics of Skyfire but I’m not expecting magic this time around. Siege Skyfire demonstrated that a simple transformation is all that is required to achieve a faithful alt mode. Scale up, refine...done. I would love to be wrong here. After all, it was developed during MP44’s timeframe (or as I like to call, the Era of Full Masterpiece Opulence.)

Yeah, new scan of the same image from Generations 2021 - not an actual new shot of Skyfire - sorry to disappoint.

I can understand if you need the thrill of freestyling it to enjoy a transformation, but if people do it that way and then proceed to complain about a transformation being difficult or causing breakage they should give full disclosure so that us video-watchers know their experience doesn't apply to us.
