Well we now have an idea of what year it's coming out at least that's for sure.

As for the argument about the relationship between Optimus and Megatron I don't get where the idea of this being a romantic one came from other then it's meant to be a joke. Also I'm not sure if I'm gonna get blasted for saying this but I don't think the idea of just making Megatron a power hungry a-hole along with Optimus just being a heroic guy that stops him isn't any better of an idea then what Hasbro's having them go for because if you want people to have a reason to get invested and care what happens between them, there needs to be more to the conflict other then just their respect roles and having Saturday Morning types of fights.

Even if they don't go with the former friends route there HAS to be more to their battles with each other especially if they want to make up to the people who didn't like that the Bay movies didn't deliver on that aspect. There has to be a type of conflict that brings out sides to them that either they don't know about or don't want to admit especially if you're going to do an origin story about where it started. Which is why as unpopular as this will sound I get why they're going the former friends route because it's among the most effective ways of doing it.

I think part of it comes with the tendency to make modern Megatron more nuanced than just pure, outright, evil (even if he ends up that way) so they depict him and the Decepticon movement as having initially genuinely good ideals that someone like Optimus Prime (sometimes as Orion Pax) can support and get behind until the movement and Megatron get warped into what fans recognize them as and the ideological divide occurs and leads to the Great War and adds to the tragedy of how a race and two friends could end up becoming locked in conflict for centuries over it.

It's kind of like how Smallville handled the Clark/Lex relationship.

At the same time I wouldn't cite the Netflix trilogy for it's handling of it but more stuff like the TF: Prime cartoon where obviously they're mortal enemies but the history between the two of them enhances it and why it's so personal to the point of obsession.

I don't think it makes the war all about them beyond the fact that Optimus and Megatron are kind of the central, franchise, pillar who represent and embody their respective Factions and the conflict between them. It doesn't make any Autobot and Decepticon less relevant any more than it did before.

 

Wouldn't Megatron turning to conquest and genocide over a failed relationship be just as reductive though?

 

Theoretically I don't think it would be as bad. Maybe it awakened an inner demon in Megatron going through the breakup that Prime didn't know he had. I've had relationships with people that seemed normal at first, then I didn't find out until later that they had a pretty bad mean streak. With the distraction of the first war, any violent tendencies that Megatron might have shown could be dismissed as a war reaction, or the grit needed to survive the Gladiator Pits. War became Megatron's coping mechanism.

Yes that would make Megatron an incel. Kind of a weird thought. I would be more concerned about Megatron going from a Sociopath to a Psychopath.

Prime gives off a weird incel vibe in the WFC cartoon, asking for Megatron to forgive him and seek his acceptance.

 

The whole thing with Prime and Megatron having a personal relationship...I just don't understand why you would use that story beat on those characters when we have a much more fitting example with Starscream and Skyfire that's just begging to be given greater depth. Instead of making the war all about two guys at the top and their broken relationship (platonic or romantic, doesn't matter), you should instead focus on relationships on the sidelines that are broken as a consequence of the war.

 

I find that particularly interesting since the same director was tasked to do an Action Man film.

I'm sure the TF movie will be fine... I'm more concerned that the directorial team on the D&D movie have really only done comedies (Horrible Bosses was aaight) and the script for an okay Marvel movie.

I mean, a D&D film should have some comic elements to it, always has (I ATTACK THE GAZEBO) but IDK about their track record on this one.

 

So this movie is made for old fans and kids which is reason new fans never watch animated movie and transformers cartoons they like live action realistic looking bots it’s another bumblebee movie won’t make billion only pleased to original fans not new fans oh well another underperform like bumblebee in open for any transformers movie new fans are not
