The mold really does work for her. While it's obviously not 100% spot on to the original design it does so enough to work as an effective take on her.
Quick question, but what do you mean by "Maligned Personality Tick" when you describe MTMTE? Just confused on what that means. Great job on her tho! BTW, in the new comics is she an Autobot/Decepticon, or are they still trying to pull of the whole colony world schtick like in MTMTE?
I was referring to the "personality tick" storyline in MTMTE, which I seem to have enjoyed more than some very vocal readers, hence calling it unfairly maligned. Thank you, she's one of my favorite customs now! She's pretty much an Autobot in the new comics. I don't think they're at the point where everyone wears the badge yet.
OH! shit is that the story where poor Countdown is used a fuckin' food source for the ticks or something? Also, I've heard that the new IDW comics aren't that good and go really fuckin' slow with like no real plot and shit dialogue. What do you think of em'?
Yeah, that's the one. I actually laughed out loud, of actual enjoyment, when they started calling the parasites "personality ticks". I'm also a Doctor Who fan, so I'm completely down for a concept like that. I get why other people don't like the story, though. I love all the new designs Milne did for that story and I'm figuring out which bodies to use for the others. I'm thinking about a blue RiD Drift for Velocity and an RiD Windblade for Javelin. I'd love to find something with wheels in the heels and shoulders for Velocity, though, but all I can find are godawful movie molds. The new comics are a mixed bag. There are interesting ideas and some really good side stories. There's enough good to keep me hanging on out of hope that it becomes more consistent. As for the dialogue, some of it has definitely been used as a clunky vehicle for infodumps. I think the new series has been built out of compromises and suffers for that. Nobody got what they really wanted from it. I do appreciate that the range of characters used in the series. Besides imports from the old continuity like Road Master, Nautica, Heretech, Froid, and Javelin (can't remember if there was anyone else), they're also pulling in characters like Flamewar, Shadow Striker, and Deathsaurus. I hope the extra attention will help some of these get some official toy releases in the Generations line.
Ah. I think I saw a cover for the new comic with Stormtrooper's Rage and Hydradread on the cover, and since I'm a sucker for obscure 'Cons like them, I'm hoping they get toys at some point. Though, I do think Siege Sideswipe/Red Alert could work as a custom Hydradread. Tho that's just one of the many customs I want to do. I have way too many ideas for custom figures in my damned head, lol. BTW, what paint did you use for Roadmaster?
First mold that came to my mind was oversized Rook, but you already mentioned it. Too bad there is no Generations-style Rescue Bots Salvage toy, as that could work as a base. But surely there is some Optimus out there with leg and kidney wheels.
I have such a backlog of customs. I kind of accidentally started focusing on female characters just since there are so many interesting ones that came from the comics that will probably never get toys, or else came from older series with very outdated. Right now, I'm figuring out possible heads to use for the Mistress of Flame and the IDW dinobot Strafe and trying to find where the head I want to use for Flamewar went. I just ditched the idea I had for Stardrive because the base figure wouldn't work they way I wanted. I had an idea for Airazor in the backlog so long they actually came out with a good one. I have no idea when any of these will be finished or even actually started. I mostly use cheap acrylic craft paints thinned with Pledge floor finish and maybe a little water. For this one, the main colors were Apple Barrel's khaki, mountain blue, and pavement. The light blue was Americana baby blue and the eyes and lights are Americana daffodil yellow. The middle shade of blue and silver were from Sharpie paint markers. The orange was from a Painter's paint marker, which I used because the craft paint shade didn't look right. I think the yellow eyes were from another Painter's marker.
Cool custom. But since you were mentioning bigger base figures for Roadmaster, i quickly thought of CHUG Roadbuster and (recently released on pulse) Prime Breakdown.
Those are interesting suggestions, particularly Breakdown. He has the right proportions, definitely. Both of those are actually shorter than the KO Hound I used, though (I had them on nearby shelves, so it was pretty easy to check). The Optimus Prime mold I had her standing next to is just a bit taller, which isn't that big of a deal. I just started having her stand on a couple of Combiner Wars feet, which takes her to that head taller than Pyra Magna she's shown as in the comic. I may take those off since they make her lankier than I want her to be. The height is really a minor point, though, and I think either of those figures you mentioned would make a great base for her.
Either that KO hound is HUGE, or breakdown & roadbuster are smaller than I remember! another big beefy truck character is Bulkhead. Animated Leader class bulky was a beefcake. But might make a nice big cheesecake lol
Yeah, it's surprising how short Breakdown is. Roadbuster is just a little shorter. I think Prime Bulkhead is about the same height as Breakdown. Sadly, I don't have the animated version.
