Yes, that is usually how winged creatures like wyverns and bats tend to work. The wings are the forelimbs, and that's how Legendary Ghidorah was and he as awesome.

I don't mind the wing-arms, I just don't think the design is all that attractive. The actual membrane of the wings seems too small, and he has a weirdly shaped body.

Ghidorah in that video kind of looks like he's from Monster Hunter :lolol

But from a design standpoint I'd not at all mind if they kept using the wyvern-like wings from KotM because his OG wings are a bit awkward.

I remember in MH World they actually joked that an unknown target they were investigating could end up being a three-headed dragon that spat lightning :lol

I too appreciate the shift to have his wings be akin to an actual animal's forelimbs, gives him a greater feel of mobility and realism. I mean, as much realism as you'd want on your three-headed storm dragon alien. But they do homage the older incarnations when he stands upright and spreads his wings, since their extended membrane and the struts protruding from his ribs emulate the original design nicely, so it's not as if they completely ditched the look of previous Ghidorahs :D

Not to say old Ghidorah couldn't 'work' despite the wings being more static. After all, the character's blasts are often described as gravity beams, alongside the association with electricity, so you could envision him as flying via manipulation of natural magnetic/gravitational forces and using the wings instead more like rudders to adjust himself. Going back to Monster Hunter, one creature uses enlarged electrically-charged sacs to make an intense magnetic field that reacts with its environment to 'fly' despite having no wings at all.

    Mm, delicious musing.

The detail on the wings of these creatures was always a delight, mainly in how ridiculously huge they were. They definitely emphasized how such massive animals would need phenomenal wingspans to have a hope of getting up. Hokmuto is the most sensible example, since he's relatively small and spindly but his wings are so huge that fully spread he almost looks as big as the terrestrial creatures. Rodan and Ghidorah have the classic look of developed forelimbs on which they can crawl, folding their membranes back but then spreading them to great widths when it was time to fly and noticeably putting a lot of effort into making that first jump into the air.

The Warbats didn't care for that given they flew with their hoods like a messed up cobra. Still noticeably enlarged and well supported (even dexterous enough to twist around and try to suffocate Kong), but hardly comparable to great wide wings. That said, these are creatures who've adapted to the bizarre gravitational phenomena in the Hollow Earth, as opposed to the others who flourished on the upper planes, so there's room for experimentation.

So people have been posting screenshots of the 4K restoration of Mothra vs Godzilla and god damn does it look incredible. A shame that by the time we will get them in the US 16K will be halfway through its life cycle.

3 hour cut of the 76 Kong film. Not sure of the unseen footage is worth a second watch.

Well, I guess I should've seen this coming. I'm ambivalent on Godzilla v. Kong as a Godzilla film. At times, it is deeply unserious in a way that KOTM or even the first Legendary Godzilla wasn't, with "jokes" that feel forced. At others, it's great monster action. And there are choices and characters that feel unexplored, frankly. All in all, I probably give it a 7/10, max. KOTM was a tough act to follow, and it shows.

I didn't like the tone of the film. It felt like they were trying to do a Marvel movie, what with all the added humor and stuff. Or perhaps the suits felt KOTM was too grim. Characters like Bernie or Josh seem to exist just for bad comic relief. There's a respect you gotta pay Godzilla as a concept, and at times, this film failed at it. KOTM built him up to be this living god, this divine avenger, and I didn't get any of those feelings from this film.

To be fair to the movie, the monster action was great. Stuff like Godzilla and Kong's fights were genuinely excellent cinematography. It had spectacle and weight in equal measure. Even Kong's axe felt like it was a natural part of his fighting style.

Characters...just exist and concepts are...just thrown out there. Ren Serizawa, Mark Russell, and the villain's daughter just felt wasted. I feel like the first of those just existed to be a voice of relative reason to Simmons. Mechagodzilla doesn't feel like the reincarnation of Ghidorah. You're expected to just accept stuff like Hollow Earth. Stuff like that really hampers the film.

All in all, Godzilla v. Kong was good, but it could've been better.

Today is the 7th anniversary of the Monsterverse.

7 years... just to have 4 films.

And that quality went away after the 2nd one.

If you're committed to a universe based on a big library of characters that ends in a big event crossover? Yes.

I’ve liked all of them so far. Different tones, but all have been of quality.

Churning them out yearly would make them lower quality, not higher. You can’t have both.
