I know a lot of people, myself included want a Beast Era Grimlock reminiscent of the 1997 release. Currently, I am working on it according to the 1997 Toy and might take queues from the IDW Beast Wars Ascending Comic. For the Base I used Kingdom Dinobot, Studio Series 86 Grimlock's Head, and Testors Paints for detail along with Krylon Fusion White Paint for the main paint coat. Touchups are with Testors. I plan to clear coat it after I finish. Not sure if it will help prevent the chipping, but it should look nice nonetheless when I get done with it. Still working on it and waiting for the paint to cure aside from needing to run out for more black paint for the spots and detail lines.
I'd say maybe file down parts of the faceplate to make it seem sharper? Because for right now, it feels like the edges are rounder than they need to be. But aside from that, everything else so far looks nice. Head feels a bit too big as well, but it's more of an issue with the mold's proportions itself rather than with your custom.
I really don't like the new official color scheme. The original toy deco was much more appealing. I look forward to seeing what you do with this.
Thanks everyone! And thanks for the tips. I see how it works out. Can always retool the Dinobot head too but the SS86 head seemed to fit better than the new one they made for the official. I'll be posting some updates I hope this Monday I hope.
Slight update here with some touchups of whites, gold, and the black paint spots which was done using a paint pen.
