Well, after contacting them through both websites’ support pages, their ‘support’ e-mail and their ‘hello’ e-mail, with no response from any of them, I messaged their Facebook page and got a reply in less than 24 hours.

The message basically said ‘We’ll try to honour your order because it was our mistake. We’ll know if we can honour it in the coming weeks and, if not, we’ll refund you.’

Nice to get some response, but a little disappointing to find out that it was a mistake to even let me order it. Although, admittedly the actual message is a little less clearly worded. And ‘in the coming weeks’ could mean just about any time in the next year.

 

Funnily enough, just after writing the above post, hello@robosen got back to me and said:

“It was a glitch on our system. We will try to honor your order, but you may be responsible to customs, and or duty and taxes.”

The ‘glitch’ presumably referring to whatever it was that allowed me to select a UK billing/shipping address. If customs fees are the only issue, then that’s fine - I’m used to expecting those when I import any figures - but I will feel a bit sorry for other potential UK buyers if it turns out that those of us who got one only managed it because of a temporary technical issue.

I was thinking this was licensing issue - Robosen probably only has a Hasbro license for the US.

But the second email sounds like they are just new to all of this and aren't sure what the issues might be, so to prevent headaches just limited to US only.

That potential 20% UK tax duty is going to hurt badly. Roughly an extra £100?

 

No that is not what we are saying. We are surely limiting it as stated on Hasbropulse as well. It is not manufactured based on demand. We are trying to ensure people have a chance to buy it without abusing the system.

Ya everything I've seen on this guy and how it's being marketed is that it's a set amount to be made.. by Hasbro.. I don't think Robosen is even close to set up to make a huge mass market wave.. this is gonna be like a smaller fans toys wave.. like 1500 to 2k.. not 10 to 50k.. I kinda feel bad for em.. getting a taste of primes huge sales.. not much else is gonna sell like prime!

 

I hope one day Robosen can give us a couple numbers and facts:

• How many of the original Hasbro preorders were available with the Collector’s Edition case?
• How many will be made available directly from Robosen?
• Will there be a limit?
• What are the differences between Hasbro Pulse Collector’s edition and other editions that will be made?

if anyone knows these answers for certain please feel free to share!

 

Looks like they "found" a whole bunch of new inventory. Looks like Robosen has a very loose definition of "limited edition". To be fair the term is very vague and this is literally all the company does, its not like they are cranking out dozens of products to be content with moving on to the next thing - it makes sense they will try to milk this for all it can.

I really don't blame them for trying to make money lol I don't think there are other box are selling all that great compared to Optimus Prime.

 

Robosen clearly misread the definition of artificial scarcity. You're supposed to stop making figures after reaching the limit, not increase the limit to allow more to be made.  

 

At this rate almost tempted to cancel my pre order and see if these end up on the discount floors then   sheesh.

 

Found Schmound, for all we know, they could be modifying scalpery orders to 1 per and restoring the stock from all the freed up units.

 

highly doubt that. this is the 10th or so restock - each is a nice even number of 50 or in this case 135. If they were cancelling flippers theyd audit there orders once and release the stock all together. As if they care - they still now are allowing you to get as much as you want with a polite request to limit it to one.
Most likely they feel dumb having under estimated the interest and decided to manufacture more. I guarantee that this is not the last wave of availability.

 

That's the fear. The fear that this will become the next Robosapien and it'll be EVERYWHERE. And then they'll do repaints of it too. Cel-shaded edition, Nemesis Prime edition, Ultra Magnus edition, Shattered Glass edition, Powered Convoy edition, Fire Guts edition, and so on... all exclusives to stores or specific regions.

Regardless, I'm still glad I ordered 2 from Pulse and that was it.

 

Wow they're just making as many as they can over and over 305 in stock LOL they're going to make this till literally nobody wants one.. more power to em.. but my collectable interest is really waining..

 

Yeah... more and more glad I missed the preorder on Pulse.
