I see a lot of folks saying you can't play this one player, but I think a lot of deck building games can be played solo. So It remains to be seen. Usually the enemies are their own deck, so no reason it can't be solitaire mode.

The BoardGameGeek page for the game lists it as 1-4 players. Plus, most co-op games can be played "two-handed" where a solo player effectively plays for two players.

I have no idea what’s a deck building card game. Glad some asked the question. By the answers, I guess it sounds kinda fun. Never been into cards, well except regular cards like poker, but I mean I never cared about stuff like Magic or Pokemon or whatever. Obviously I’m only interested because Transformers, but I’ll keep an eye on this.

Ill add my 2 cents on how deck builders are generally played. Each player has the same starting basic cards, which they shuffle, and draw their hand from. Then a stack of cards are laid out and usually 5 or so cards are flipped up and lined up. Each turn a player generates a resource of some sort from the cards in their hand and are able to defeat/purchase cards from that lineup, replacing those cards from the big stack. The cards the player picks up go into their discard pile and can be used in future turns once they get shuffled back into their deck. The idea is that over a few rounds you build a deck that starts to generate more and more of the resource you need and sometimes you can weed out the starting cards so they dont bring your power level down. There are different card types and it usually helps to focus on some sort of synergy early on. So, basically everyone starts the same but by the end of every game, decks could be wildly different.

Each deck building game puts their own spin on this formula; a lot of times there is a timed element that speeds the game towards conclusion. A boss might appear from a secondary deck or cards might "escape" over time, etc. In the end, most cards will have points assigned to them that you add up, highest total wins.

Expansions tend to be standalone or can be incorporated into the base set, adding new rules, card types, characters, etc. You dont need to buy them as there is no need to "keep up" but if you enjoy a particular game it helps to add complexity to spice things up.

As others have said, only one set is needed for all players so they are great to pickup and play with friends and family. Since there is a lot of randomness involved a less experienced player can win, though strategizing will increase your odds for sure.

My guess is they may have some kind of pre-order campaign on their website with some kind of exclusive incentive bonus. That's what they've been doing with their Power Rangers games for the past year or so.

Hmm, only thing I'm not feeling is the "travel and explore the Matrix" concept, but I'll take a flyer on this.

That Optimus Prime art (I presume it's the card art) is SICK, is that @markerguru?

anyone got a free shipping code or anything?

Do you know if the cards were alternative art or extra characters not in the original version? Just wondering how much value there is to it vs skipping. Thanks!

The Power Rangers one had like tokens I believe and then a special holder for the cards that was different from the one that comes in the standard box.

Edit - Oh! Looks like they had the White Ranger character exclusive. Forgot about that.

looks like mostly repurposed IDW interior art ~ Frenzy and Sunstreaker are Guido Guidi from All Hail Megatron...

I recognize Sideswipe (Su, perhaps?) unsure about Vortex and Jazz.
