Hey, new here, just wondered has anyone been working on a way to get WFC/FOC servers somewhat online again? Would really love to play some online TF again Thanks
I think we're shit outta luck. The process to starting your own server is a pain in the ass to say the least. You have to be able to have access and modify the code and then also pay for and start a custom server. Translation, sadly there aren't enough hardcore fans out there to do it. I wish they had some kind of local mode, but that's it until we get a new game. Sorry bud, but all Activision era games are rendered useless thanks to the server shutdown.
Some words for your thoughts. Apparently according to some of the ex-modders of those games, the server stuff is too embedded into the code. It's not like replacing a dedicated server with a community one in a game like Team Fortress 2 since games like that have server browsers. WFC and FOC didn't. Honestly I think if a third party server was going to happen, it would've happened already seeing as it's been a year. But it seems like a shoddy case of the Devs (HMS) locking all of the essential stuff in hard to breach files. It used Unreal Engine 3 which rarely games that used that engine got community servers made for. But the final verdict? It's shitty that multiplayer games have an unspoken expiration date. Nobody will really say that or care what happens to multiplayer games after they go down. That's just how this industry works.
FoC got a remaster back in 2016 or 2015 I don't think it was a physical release only digital. RotDS was released for Xbox One in 2014. WfC Only released for PC, 360, and Ps3. However, All of the games were removed from digital stores following the expiration of Activision's License to use Hasbro's brand.
someone would have to reverse engineer the code, tricking the game into thinking its connecting to the multiplayer server but instead connecting to an entirely different network. If you look into projects like Warhawk and the people from PSONE, they have managed to get projects like WarHawk, Twisted Metal Black, Wipeout HD, PlayStation Home, Socom confrontation, Ratchet and Clank PS3 as either online or ongoing projects. Now while all of these projects are specifically PlayStation in orientation, it is a similar concept. You would think that a console version would also be more embedded code wise to crack. So if content like that through the PlayStation Network is able to be cracked then I still have faith that one day someone will break our favorite Transformers Games and bring them back to life. Some games take years but it is very possible. Sometimes it is made easy as long as the source code is still in tact. Usually there is a bin file of key debug information that allows finding specific information faster within binary files. Each game is different depending on where the developers stored that. But for the network side of things as mentioned, it can take a lot of time and dedication to these kinds of things. You would need a team that is interested in bringing back the games. I'm not sure how the recent group that brought back Batman Arkham Origins Multiplayer but that's just one of the many games that had their Multiplayer shut down and revived. I've personally thought of recruiting a team but I wouldn't know where to start with finding the right people. I only know so much
