It’s fine but it’s not really wowing me. New head on Grimlock looks nice but not enough to double dip on a mold I wasn’t thrilled with packaged with a deluxe I don’t care about. Packaging art is gorgeous though.

 

Hopefully they produce more of them. These seem like more people are getting them then some of the others so hopefully that’s a good sign

I feel like the set description kind of soft teases an earth mode hound. It mentions completing an earth mode vehicle collection and hound is a hole there. We also have the nightprowler listing.

This. Not to mention since it ships via Amazon themselves there is an additional 30 days after it ships to return for free. That said after November 1st I would be warry of any Open Box items from Amazon for this set as it may likely include repacks of Siege Mirage and/or Dinobot.

 

I'm in love with everything I see here. Grimlock completely OWNS that new head sculpt which while it is accurate to the OG Dinobot toy is also very Grimlock in nature with the Black helmet and sharp angular mouth plate. To think that the chin spike on the mouth plate was misinterpreted by the animators of the Beast Wars show as an oddly shaped mouth and was portrayed that way on Dinobot's now distinctive head design has also helped me appreciate this new Maximal Grimlock even more (Not that I dislike Dinobot's head design, not at all).

When it comes to the Mirage, I find it hilarious how Hasbro took one look at where the big 26 decals ended up on his legs along with all the colors inaccuracies to his show model (i.e. the blue shoulders, blue kneecaps, and completely white fender wings) and just said "Screw it, This is what we are going with! ". Those alterations make it so that despite representing his earth mode form, this toy ends up taking more artistic liberties from his original show model and its color layout. Upon closer inspection he appears to be re-engineered from the waist up given the orientation of his arms in vehicle mode and the odd differences the rear half of his alt. mode has in comparison to the Siege version. It'll be interesting to see how that will work when he is released or Y'know if someone "gets" this set early COUGH COUGH TonTon, PrimeVs.Prime, and Kremzeek reviews COUGH COUGH!!

 

I'm game for this. Arms are "part" of the air intake, so the biggest Mirage problem is fixed.

Grimlock, well there aren't a lot of options for BW Dinobot without more invasive retooling. It's arctic Dinobot with a Grim-head. If you liked Dinobot...
Not sure if I'm going to use the Grimlock name. It feels like such a downgrade. I hope it's not a long wait for a recolored version of that claw set.

 

How is my optimism unsubstantiated? Like I said, they fixed the 2 biggest complaints about the Siege mold. If it can't be shoulder mounted then so be it, but we don't know yet if it can or not

 

That’s actually Grimlock, not Dinobot.

 

Tried for a while and still said Premium exclusive to me.

Interesting. I preordered the set, but I want to see a review at some point. The Mirage doesn't look that different from the Siege one, so double dipping seems unnecessary. The Grimlock looks cool, and I try to get every Grimlock they put out, but I recently decided to stop buying Beast Wars characters. This might be a pre-order that gets canceled. Time will tell.

 

They both look really nice to me. I'm now glad that I passed on Siege Mirage because this one definitely looks better in alt mode

 

I'm already wondering if I can swap the siege front end. Give them full credit for using a modern era F1 front wing though. going to keep my siege mirage weapons.

Neither does pessimism, which I'd say is fully warranted since all of these siege retools have been comprised in some regard. Also it's pretty funny how every single picture of Mirage with his shoulder missile launcher conveniently has him holding it in his hand, I wonder why that is?
