No thanks. I'm not putting in effort to buy the console when they are supposed to be the ones selling it to me.

They better hurry up though as I want to play Judgment as soon as I finish the Yakuza series.

It's not their fault. Ford and GMC have hundreds of trucks sitting in warehouses only needing microchips to be complete thatr they can't move.

Why would I care what car companies are doing? That has nothing to do with a video game console. :lol

Because there's a finite pool of manufacturing capacity available for semiconductors and microchips. The more things like cars and appliances and whatever need those microchips and take up chunks of that capacity, the less there is for things like pc components and game consoles.

That has nothing to do with video games or cars either. :lol

My point is, I don't care about cars, I care about video games.

The Playstation 5 is far more important than more pollution devices.

No.. The point is you have no bloody clue how anything works then tend to act like an entitled brat.

Either that or buying the console alone for bundle prices on StockX. No matter what, we're all just getting screwed.

Either way, i'm fine with waiting, currently in the middle of a new PC build (still gotta get some more parts, but I got the main ones out of the way) so I have SOMETHING new, gaming-wise, around the corner.

In a way it actually does.

Directly? Absolutely no correlation with each other. Indirectly? Yes. Both are in need of semiconductors, but the effect of the shortage is just as if not more widespread when it comes to the side of the automakers in this case.

Just to give a glimpse into the magnitude of the automaker side of things, here's a couple examples (Car and Driver article for reference)

    - Volkswagen shut down a plant in Slovakia for 2 weeks.
    - GM shut down 3 plants (Spring Hill, TN, Delta Township, MI and Ramos Arizpe, Mexico) for 1-2 weeks, extended shutdowns for 3 other plants (Lansing, MI, Kansas City, MO and Ingersoll, ON) and put over 10,000 workers on extended breaks.
    - Ford shut down their Hermosillo, Mexico plant for 4 days, cut back production on F-150s and Explorers for around 3-4 weeks and idled their Chicago, Flat Rock, MI and Kansas City plants from mid-April to mid-May.
    - Hyundai's Asan, SK, plant temporarily ceased production and their main plant in Ulsan, SK, shut down for a week.
    - Land Rover temporarily stopped producing several Land Rover and Jaguar models from their Castle Bromwich and Halewood factories since April 26th
    - Stellantis' (Fiat-Chrysler) plant in Jefferson North, MI has laid off two crews from late-April to mid-May (with another crew laying off temporarily for the rest of May right afterward).
    - Daimler/Mercedes-Benz has temporarily halted production in 2 Germany plants for at least a week.
    - BMW's Plant Oxford plant has ceased production for 3 days, and their plant in Regensburg, Germany has also cut production.
    - Mitsubishi is expecting a 20% decrease in monthly production for the month of May.
    - Nissan is apprently shutting down it's Kyushu, Japan plant temporarily in mid-may, with another plant in Japan apparently shutting down for 10 days and 2 others cutting night shifts, and planned production in their Smyrna, TN and Canton, MI plants.
    - Subaru shut down their Lafayette, IN plant for the last 2 weeks of April.

When comparing the situations between one manufacturer (Sony) in at least one factory (IIRC they use a Japan-based plant for PS5 production and I have seen no examples of outsourcing production to say, Foxconn, for example), and 11 manufacturers (VW, GM, Ford, Hyundai, Land Rover, Stellantis/FCA, Daimler, BMW, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Subaru) and at least 25 factories WORLDWIDE, there seems to be one clear winner when it comes to overall spread.

They're right, consoles, cars, PC parts, they're all connected by the current chip shortage. I hear about the car chip issue issues at least once every couple of weeks on the radio news as I commute (yeah, I mostly listen to podcasts while driving, but I still like to be informed about what's happening). This is how the world works.

I wonder if Sony will change their strategy on phasing out the PS4 and make more games cross gen. Seeing how the PS5 is basically a PS4 Pro Pro and the PS5 is impossible to get. Sony needs to make money on their games.

Or maybe I just don't care?

Or I could just be creating a discussion?

    A combination of the two?

That is the car companies own fault, however. They bet on the pandemic lasting longer than it did, and liquidated their supply of microchips to tech companies.

They look pretty nice, I gotta say.

Now let's hope they top those off with an all-black console once chip stocks are back to normal...

I hope Sony releases shells. I want an all black PS5 but I don’t want to spend more than $25 on the shells.

I have a feeling that it could happen with that supposed architectural redesign the news has been reporting coming next year over the past couple days.

I guess only time well tell...

If you don't actually put in the effort to get a much sought-after console when there's a chip shortage thus causing a slow down in mass production, you're going to be waiting a loooooooong time to play Judgement. Sony has even said that they expect PS5 shortages to continue well into next year. IIRC, this is after they said, late last summer, they expected there to be a much more consistent stock by Spring 2021.

I know that Sony is currently prioritizing on trying to get PS5 consoles into players hands, but there seems to be so much demand for PS5 shells that it's surprising Sony hasn't started selling different ones yet. Also, it's a safe bet that shells will be between $30-40. If they're any less than that, I'll be surprised.

I've come to the decision that I'll just get Judgment and Lost Judgment on the PS4. Fuck the PS5. My biggest issue is that I'm just so sick to death of uninstalling and reinstalling games because the harddrive size sucks ass.

Have you thought of changing out the hard drive? I got the original PS4 back in 2015, and replaced the hard drive with one that was 1TB. It really cut down on having to uninstall and reinstall games significantly.
