IIRC Brave spawned directly from Transformers, but the two franchises are separate for the most part.

 

I believe it had something to do with transformers as a media property losing relevance (in japan), so takara spawned a new series, being brave, using designs meant to be released under the transformers brand since they were still churning out new designs for transformers

Could be wrong though it's been a while since I looked up the brave franchise

 

I just checked the wiki, and although there do seem to be several influences for the show, Transformers didn't seem to be one of them:

Regardless, it still seems that this figure has been heavily influenced by Gao Gai Gar, and for me, just isn't worth the money when either the original Star Convoy or GGG figures are available that can transform and/or have just as good (if not better) articulation, and can be found for cheaper.

I'll repeat again, Kunio Okawara (Gundam, Starsaber, Scorponok among others), Shoji Kawamori (Convoy (early stages)), Valkyrie VF1-S aka Jetfire, THS-02 and MP Starscream, Shinji Aramaki did Soundwave, the original Cassetrons, Perceptor (even the original MASK vehicles and NAoH (New He-man) vehicles.

So the inspiration and homages are all so strikingly familiar. The latest engineers and designers must have grown up under the influences of these great designers too.

I like the design. A super mode can be better I think if it's more than shoes and backpack. Also the chest lion is a cool Daltanias reference.

Looks great, amazing even, but not for that asking price.

 

Just the beast mode. The original figure had three modes. Flame Toys isn't able to make transforming Transformers so they had to stick with one. Transformable armor doesn't seem to fall into the area of transforming (or as Hasbro likes to use, converting) robots.

That's almost always been a stipulation of any officially licensed third party product (not to be confused with the unofficial stuff), but there have been a couple of novelty type exceptions. I think they went with the best mode if they were going to make a Victory Leo figure honestly.

 

Still not sure if pre-ordering this was such a good idea... I really hope I like him in hand!
