Honestly while Super Megatron may work as a means of getting more in line with what the original BotCon exclusive had? The fact they're using the Siege figure doesn't really bug me all that much. For one thing, I look at the build in those colors and it really does a lot to change the vibe as it takes this big powerful bruiser of an emperor who will not hesitate to smash a bot's face in if they dare to question his command and makes him look heroic. I mean with those proportions it even kind of gives me vibes of both other heroic robots and mecha and some Optimus Prime toys. To be fair that isn't to say that Super Megatron in these colors wouldn't be, to borrow a phrase from Thew, absolutely pimpin' but honestly rather than worry about what we could've had I'm just glad we got this.

Plus I think it's got some really great elements. For one thing, while the jet-mode is kinda flaky, I get a tiny bit of almost a Prime Megatron vibe from it with just the general shape and proportions albeit blockier. I mean it's a very unintentional connection that's most likely being made up by my WAY too nerdy brain but hey it's something I'm getting out of it. I think the cockpit/shield thing is a little weird but honestly compared to the whatever lance they gave Earthrise Megs it's pretty neat and honestly really does assist in selling Megatron as a good guy just by its general aesthetic alone and just in general this mold rocks these colors.

Overall... I'm excited as all hell. I already own the Siege figure but this one just tickles my fancy and I really don't mind that it's being used again for something like this especially since this mold already made for such an awesome Megatron and it's just nice to see Shattered Glass get actual mainstream time in the spotlight that isn't relegated to convention exclusives that will run you the price of a house in the aftermarket or a cool but stupidly rare 3P offering... that also goes for the price of a house on the aftermarket. I mean I can't be the only one who felt that this thing had so much potential when Fun Pub brought it out in 2008 only to feel increasing disappointment when it would kind of go underutilized except for the odd exclusive that would most often just not belong in whatever line-up they threw it in so I really don't see too many issues with this. I mean okay if there's one nitpick I can make it's that the wings are "Eh." in robot mode but aside from that? Everything else looks dope.

Playing around with my Siege Megatron, I think SG Megatron would look good with the legs raised instead of the thighs being straight as they are in the official image. He also should have been given two identical sword/cannons IMO. I'm pretty sure the new wings would have fit between the gap in the sword.

Shattered Glass was lame as a concept but I did find this Megatron deco interesting enough to order.

Not really. It was just Botcon's way of being able to sell the big name characters Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Megatron, Starscream etc... in new color schemes. It's still the traditional tale of good vs. evil just with new characters and in a continuity that they had full control over without having to abide by an existing continuity. I found that they were alienating fans with completely new characters like Landshark who nobody cared for. An evil Optimus Prime and heroic Megatron are new characters but with the familiarity of the existing characters, with a twist

I did like that Botcon filled in the gaps for some toylines by providing us with toys that neither Hasbro or Takara got around to doing so themselves, but they were just seen as addendums.

Yes really. Evil mirror universe has been done to death. It was novel when Star Trek did it. DS9 went to that well many times and Enterprise did two episodes that I always skip. Even the GoBots had an evil mirror universe episode, not to mention countless parodies over the years. We get it, everybody flips sides in the mirror universe. So deep, so edgy, wow, much coin.

The evil mirror universe had yet to be done in Transformers until Shattered Glass. Part of "being done to death" means that even Transformers cannot escape such a trope.

But really, it was just a way of Botcon being able to repaint characters and still have the big names. Doesn't need to be deep, edgy or original. It just needed be a source of potential repaints. The toys

Are you also similarly aghast when we have evil black repaints of Optimus Prime? We have had many Nemesis Primes over the years, but nobody complains about them being "an evil mirror universe" Optimus Prime, despite Nemesis Prime being the exact same thing as Shattered Glass Optimus Prime.

We also have Barricade repaints of Prowl now, which can also be seen as "evil mirror universe" versions of Prowl.

Hey, look - Springer repainted in evil colors - obviously an "evil mirror universe". They're everywhere! Yes, I know its Battletrap, but its also still the Springer toy painted in evil colors. Nothing stopping you having the new Shattered Glass Blurr and giving him an evil Decepticon identity who isn't just an evil Blurr. The point is that many toys are painted as the opposite faction and has long since been an accepted practice. We have also had names that have been used by both factions over the years. Taking the Shattered Glass toyline without the fiction, there is nothing new about painting a known character as the opposite faction. Just that this time instead of being renamed Nemesis Prime, the evil Optimus Prime repaint is still called Optimus Prime.

One thing I would like to see is Shattered Glass versions of characters instead originating in the positive universe with their usual positive universe version being the evil universe version. So instead of heroic Autobot Warpath being native to the positive universe as usual, we instead get evil Decepticon Warpath originating in the positive universe and heroic Decepticon Warpath originating in the evil mirror universe as the negative universe heroic counterpart to the positive universe evil Warpath. Instead of vice versa as it is currently, but heroic Warpath and evil Warpath still have the same personalities as they currently do.

Transformers was my introduction to Shattered Glass universes and I love it. I can't think of another show I watch that has done that concept so it's pretty fun in my opinion.

...Nope, I was wrong. Community had the darkest timeline and I liked that too.

Why come into a thread about a Shattered Glass reveal just to complain that Shattered Glass is lame?

I had the idea months ago of a Snapdragon retool. Robot mode isn't 100% accurate, so it's got some cues I feel can give you the vague idea for the odd choice.
Course, I thought of this as a "We can't do a Kingdom Galvatron retool" solution. So I was trying to think of something more creative than the end product. But tbh I like your Cyclonus retool idea better!

It may not be that he is here to complain that it is lame, rather it just naturally comes up in the discussion because it is lame. There were much better things they could have been producing that fans actually wanted, rather than things they told the fans they wanted. It's beyond unoriginal and only here or there does the concept even work well. Megatron here is nice looking, but he sure doesn't look heroic with that head. Not even close.

Did you even read the character description on Pulse though? Megatron, at this point, isn't supposed to look heroic. He's a former leader and freedom fighter that lost a war and went into self imposed exile because he failed. He's pissed off and depressed most likely and probably pretty far from being heroic when this comic takes place.

Exec A: So, is there anywhere we can save money after throwing in all these new parts...?
Exec B: I got it, let's tweak the backstory so we can just re-use the old head!

Gotta give it to Hasbro, they know how the game is played :D

To folks complaining that SG is ‘lame’ because the evil universe idea is not new, guess what- nothing is new. All that matters is the execution.

This is a great looking Megatron figure. I think when you use white as the primary color in a design, it can look bland and boring but the really smart use of color accents- red, black, yellow and blue make this figure pop. Usually that many colors can look bad but not here.

No one has read any of the new SG fiction and people are jumping to conclusions. You can also skip the fiction and just enjoy the figs.

This might be my only SG figure but if we need to use the SG concept to get interesting repaints, so be it. Who cares. I’m open to other repaints but I also know I don’t have to get them all.
