Hey everyone news is pretty stale when it comes to studio series right now so I was curious, which figures do you guys dislike? Mines is definitely SS-30 as Hasbro could’ve easily released TLK Berserker again in a studio series box and at least that would’ve made more sense than a crowbar repaint.
Probably Crankcase, I never bought him because of how awful and inaccurate he is. Of the ones I do have, helicopter Dropkick is my least favorite because of how drab his colors are. I only use him in my display as a spot holder.
Barricade No Frenzy, clear plastic balljoint that inevitably cracks, an absolutely nightmarish transformation, limited articulation in the legs, lack of paint, blue accents instead of purple, a dumb weapon... I really hope they redo him at some point.
I haven't really disliked any of the ones I've bought. If I had to pick, ROTF Optimus, Topspin, and VW Bee were the ones I liked the least.
Disliked? I would agree with Barricade. SS38 Optimus isn't on my hate list, but he's not a go-to by any means. Ratchet's transformation annoys me. I don't actually hate any of them, though. I'm rather fond of a good number of the molds. Which is why I wanted SS treatment for G1 characters. SS proved that Has/Tak can make really nice, really detailed figures when they put their minds and budget to it.
Cliffjumper, Arcee Triplets, and WW2 Bumblebee. WW2 Hot Rod is an honorable mention when I first got him I enjoyed him but now I look at him and say he really should have been the Lambo version
I know a lot of people like Stinger, but I've never liked him that much, the transformation is really annoying. Crowbar is pretty bad, too.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned car Shatter yet. It’s literally impossible to transform her without the pins holding the car doors from falling off. Her shoulder panels are also susceptible to falling off. Basically, most parts of her will fall off. Lastly, her head isn’t accurate either.
I find it funny that I dropped the 2022 Wave One for SS yesterday morning and you say the news is 'stale'. LOL Seriously though I'd have to say the generic repaints. That blue stinger. The orange Lockdown repaint. Those were slots that could go to characters people actually know and love. Otherwise almost every figure has its good and bad but the bad is very minor. Like Lockdown not coming with a gun. Or voyager Ironhide being too big (I use the DOTM deluxe for my display). Or many of the Bumblebees giving you either face mask or no face mask when they could have given us swapable heads.
Without being overly negative, I'll say that while I had the displeasure to handle a LOT of the line and been disappointed by about 80% of them, the biggest let down for me was Grimlock. The character spent 20-seconds in bot mode, yet that was what was prioritized with the figure. The dino mode, which should have been the focus, was a compete trainwreck.
The Arcee 3-pack is an abomination. In terms of actual toys, I would say the Crankcase/Berserker duo is not the best. But the first BB mold is the TF which caused me the most aggravation ever, not even Alternators Grimlock comes close.
To be fair, listings arent nearly as exciting as actual images. After all we had a dino listing LONG before the figure ever came to fruition
I actually like Crankcase's colors better than Crowbar's, especially paired with the old DotM Crankcase. Still a baffling repaint choice. I think people knew to stay away from that one. Why they rereleased one of the biggest shelfwarmers without apparently fixing any of the issues, I have no clue.
Car shatter, satelite soundwave. How those 2 come in the same price point as DOTM soundwave, jet shatter, is beyond me
