There are probably shops selling Optimus Prime (MP-44) for more than 1000 euros, but he "only" costed me about 330 euros at Amazon Japan including shipping, taxes and import fees. Would I have purchased him from Anime Export for example, then he would have been a bit cheaper even, but that is because Anime Export illegally evades taxes and import fees. If you would compare 1000 euros for MP-44 with the about 250 euros that I paid for MP-10, then you could also say that prices are four times higher, but these are not fair comparisons. In case of MP-44 I paid about 80 euros more than I did for MP-10, but that was years later than MP-10 first of all and MP-44 consists out of way more parts, et cetera. Just because someone chooses to pay 1000 euros in some shop does not make it a valid comparison.

Uh, that 330 euro price, or the 400 dollar price, is what people are complaining about. MP-44 is already overpriced but I don’t know what idiot would pay 1000 euros or USD for it.

And sorry but if you got MP-10 for $300 USD you either got scammed or overbought for this comparison. Despite what some people think in the MP threads a grey box on wheels is not worth roughly 200 alone.

Generations scratches the itch at a much more affordable price than MP and has a significantly larger selection of characters and takes up less space. MP simply aren't worth it

When generations is giving us mini-Masterpeice figures at a faster and cheaper rate, why invest in Masterpiece at this point?

Mostly price and selection. I have compensated by buying KOs from ebay for $25 but the quality is hit or miss plus waiting a month sucks. Also some MPs I was planning to get like Hot Rod, they came out with SS86 Hot Rod so no point to get the MP version anymore. I still like MPs but my money is better spent on mainline figures.

The switch to toon aesthetic killed the line for me. When I think of G1 I think of the toys more than anything. Marvel comics second, sunbow cartoon third.

Just stop. I quoted the bbts price a retailer that many people here use. Nothing off the wall no smoke and mirrors just the price of a well known popular retailer. I didn't say it couldn't be purchased for less just that the guy who was being called a "liar" was in fact correct. You can cherry pick prices from wherever you want. His statement of 3x the price is still factually correct, he didn't just make it up it's reality.

I was responding to someone who made a claim that a certain Masterpiece was x-times more expensive than another Masterpiece, whereas that was simply because that person chose to pay those prices, not because he or she had to. If those Masterpieces were bought from a different shop, it would not have been x-times more expensive. We were not discussing the price of MP-44, which is a hefty amount indeed. Whether MP-44 is worth it is a personal matter. To me MP-44 was worth it, but I know various people who didn't buy it because of the pricetag.

As for MP-10, the TT version did cost me about 250 euros. Back when I bought it that was what they went for. I didn't feel scammed by the price and when MP-44 was announced, I managed to sell my MP-10 for around 200 euros if memory serves me correctly, so people were still paying such prices.

So you're/someone else is not "complaining" about the TT price being x-times as much, but about the BBTS price being x-times as much. Yes, it's factually correct then, but I don't believe that this argument belongs in this topic then, as it's a personal choice to overpay for an item.

Too big, too expensive, too redundant, too slow to release.

I read that quite often on these forums. What came first for you; toys, comics or cartoon?

For me the cartoon came first, then I got the toys, and I sometimes wondered why they didn't always look like the cartoon. The comics came way later for me and to this day I haven't read many of them.

The increasing prices drove me away. Now with new Beast Wars figures on the Generations side, I can have updates of my childhood characters and save a lot of money too.

Well for me, I feel like if a grey box on wheels full of knickknacks make up around half the cost, that's overpriced.

Like I was able to get an MP Prime that can combine with his trailer for the same price as this, now imagine what a trailer combining Prime would be with Takara's prices.

Same reason I'm not collecting in general right now despite Earthrise and Kingdom producing some stellar versions of my favorite characters: I have larger financial responsibilities with changes in my life this year, so as much as I adore them from a distance, they'd just have to take a back seat in life right now. That said, much love and well wishes to the toylines and my fellow collectors, no hate on my part!

I don’t even think it’s about the price to be honest. The cartoon accuracy is great and the engineering is outstanding. I think Hound killed it for me. Was a great design, wrecked by the ‘well known’ QC issues. Let’s be honest, it was a cost saving exercise by TT. Ruined the masterpiece ‘magic’ for me. The studio series 86 is amazing anyway...

If I believe that MP-44 was worth its price of 330 euros, then I didn't overpay. I'm glad that you agree with me that your whole "x-times as much" argument doesn't belong in this thread. Good that that's settled. Then I can now spend my time replying to people who are able to have a proper discussion.

It wasn't cost savings, it was a different factory, and paint and plastic that didn't react well, and that made the plastic brittle for many people. Still not an excuse for this whole drama. I can understand why people dropped out of the Masterpiece line after what happened with Hound. I hope they rerelease him one day, but then with proper plastic and paint.
