The red train is more interesting though, it's a fictional train invented for the Plarail line and about to be merchandised this year so a Shinkalion version seems very likely. Ah, indeed. I did some digging late last night and also saw someone who added a Gundam(?) polycap piece to extend the neck joint, but eliminates the transformation capability. I'll probably just live with the figure how it is. I'm hesitant to go chopping it up for a little more range of motion.

Looks like I'll be sticking with the single releases for the future lol The extra space in the gift set packaging mostly seems to be for the larger corner pieces which are only necessary because they made it so large. :/

He looks okay. I'm just sure he looks $71 (with shipping) 'okay'. Maybe once he's on sale. I'm glad that I was broke when they first came out then. LOL. For now the 800 Tsubame is around 800 yen more than the first three. It's only a $7.xx difference in price, but if I wait and grab a few at once in the fall it will add up.

I've been trying to watch the new show, but I haven't seen anything from the first series yet. I keep feeling like I'm just not getting the full story out of this, so I started watching the original this week. Six episodes in, I really like the show. I've got the whole show and the movie on my Tab, so I'll probably keep watching a couple of them every day.
There doesn't seem to be a lot carried over from the first show, so far at least. Completely new location within Japan, all new cast and a new enemy race. All that's been carried over really is that there's a secret organisation that uses robots disguised as bullet trains to fight monsters that appear from nowhere.
I didn't recognize anyone in Z's first four episodes from the Movie, so I figured that it didn't have much connection. But I still want to know what happened first. Like why they have the robots and whatever explanation they have for letting elementary school kids pilot them. (In story at least. The real reason is obviously because little boys are their target audience and they want those viewers to see themselves in the show. It's not exactly a new strategy. Captain Marvel sold a hundreds of millions of comics over the course of the 1940s because the Big Red Cheese was the same age as his readers.)
Yeah, Japan is funny like that. They always put young children in roles far beyond their years to connect with the audience. I don't remember ever seeing that in the US. You might have the token character that's meant to be the fan avatar, but you never had an 8yo carrying a laser gun in GI Joe.
Historically, the biggest kid hero trope in the US is the sidekick. (Robin was the first and most popular by far.) The most successful was Captain Marvel. Out of seven magazines a month for the Marvel Family, his main comic sold over a million copies. Twice a month at it's peak. This was the zenith of comic book sales. They didn't need a gimmick to sell that many it was just that popular on its own. We kinda forgot that formula and really forgot kid heroes outside of the sidekick. High school heroes are about all we really have now.
