IDK how much time (if at all) any of you spend on the Radicons Customs Board here, but a couple months ago someone 3D-printed a Valkyrie of his own creation, and I think he posted the files for download too, for those of you with 3D printers. This thing is pretty sweet, and could pass for a reasonable VF-9. Apologies if it was already posted here but I tried a quick search of the thread for the link first and it didn't come up, so I assume it hasn't been previously mentioned. I check out that forum every week or two...but I somehow missed that one. Holy shit! That thing is amazing. And the design looks totally professional.
Wicked helmet! Max is my favorite pilot and his Valk is one of my favorites as well. I love the unique use of color accents compared to the decos on the Valkyries.
You know, with all those stickers still on there, you can pretend it's some kinda visor display like Roy had in Macross Zero
Mine's still rockin' the TV Supers. "Canon? No, of course not..." "The Strike pack has the cannon. This is the Super pack."
Sigh.... After getting a pre-order for the DX VF-1J + GBP Full Set, why do I have the itch to get a DX DYRL 1a Max and slap the DX SSP on it?
Maybe it's because I prefer the Skull Heat Shield and the Strike Cannons on the 1a.. It's that a good enough reason why @Slave IV?
Does your helmet have the M911 on the side? Mine does. drives me a little nuts. Of course they're selling them without that now. Get yourself one of these blue bubble shields. They're way more anime accurate, look better and are cheap. They totally transform the helmet. Linkypoo: Biltwell 3 Snap Anti Fog Bubble Shields | eBay With a little work I can mod a helmet into a Miria replica. But then I would have an odd number of helmets which bothers my display OCD. I can't think of a 6th helmet to add. A Kakizaki would have to be really custom. I wish that the guy who was making the open face SDFM helmets did a better job of them. I ordered one and it was really junky and way too small. A open face Roy and Hikaru SDFM lid would have been nice for the display. You could convert one of these full face helmets but that would take way more time than I have to throw at something like this. Sorry for the crap pics. I just opened a free Photobucket account. MW is down and that is usually where I host pics from.
And REALLY inexpensive if you get the Chinese knock offs. The older Yamato helmets go for stooooopid money. Yeah, mine has the numbers on the side but I’m not sweating it. The bubble shields are a nice touch though, thanks!
Sigh, I've been avoiding my Fire Valkyrie since all the reports of the broken elbows came out. I just knew mine would be one of them, and finally decided to suck it up and check. And, yep, there were the stress cracks starting. The right arm didn't look to bad, but the left looked like it was about to go. I thought I could gently knock the pins out, and attempt a repair from there. But nope, just the lightest tap caused both sides to just fall apart. You can see a hollow cavity inside. Both sides were like that...and I'm wondering if that' ultimately the cause. And, of course, those joints are make from nylon or POM, or one of those smooth, glossy plastics that don't take paint or glue well. Surprising, CA glue did have some amount of hold, but not enough to expect it to function fully. So, I went about drilling in pins, in addition the super glue. Then some Bondic to fill in the cracks. Next, sanded down the Bondic, and buffed and polished everything smooth again. Finally a little bit of Midnight Blue paint over the pins and Bondic. It's not a perfect match, and looks way different under these bright lights, as opposed to the naked eye. And finally, all reassembled. Feels like it should hold for now, and no damage at all from reassembly. During all the repairs, none of the plastic felt brittle, or weak, or anything at all. So I'm not sure what actually leads to the breakage in the first place. My 19S, is still totally fine with no signs of stress at all. It's also worth noting that this is an original Yamato release, so perhaps corrections were made later.
