When Takara released their target masters they left out Nightstick and Fracus. I was disappointed and attempted to make them from battle masters. But the legends versions had knees and I really liked the knees. Hasbro dropped the ball IMO. So I started to dabble. Nightstick is based off his G1 version from the Rebirth episodes from season 4. He was designed to match the size of the battle masters but fully articulated. He's meant to pair with WFC Kingdom Cyclonus. This little sucker was quite an experience to make but I think he really turned out good. Here is the little guy with Cyclonus. As you can see he has many more joints than a battle master. Let's have a look at my process. I wanted him to be pretty much the same size as a battle master. Originally I ended up making a gun attachment to attach to a battle master. I liked it, but I wanted more. Then I thought about making a "build a battle master" where I would make a bunch of parts based off the original G1 target masters that you could mix and match. These wouldn't have articulation and that was what I really wanted so I ended up abandoning that idea....sorta. As you can see here I measured and started blocking out the body, crotch and arms. They even pegged into the original battle masters. Once I got it blocked out I added in some ball joints. This is still pretty much the same size as a battle master. Eventually I created BERT. Fully articulated block dude. Man I love Bert. I kind of`` want to just make an army of Berts....ok moving on. Here is a comparison of where I started to where I wanted to be. Starting with the blocks, adding the articulation and then shaping to be what I wanted it to be. Here was my first complete test print in color next to my battle master nightstick. Battle master Nightstick features his new gun part. This was my basis for design. Showing off the articulation and a 360. I did tweak the head, shrinking it and rounding the chin. The back pack swivels around and tabs into the crotch to lock in to place in gun mode. And gun mode. I didnt bother making the legs tab together, its not necessary. Arms dont tab either. Everything holds good. And it definitely needed to be blast effect compatible And of course we need to see him with Cyclonus. Here he is in gun mode in his final version with Cyclonus in alt mode. I just thought this was funny And with Cyclonus in robot mode. This was another point of reference for me. Let's see some poses. And some pew pew bang bang with some blast effects And if anyone would like to try to print one for themselves Target Master Nightstick for WFC Cyclonus by autobot00 And for a review If you do give this a print I'd love to hear how it turns out. Joints will be tight and may need sanding. Fracus will be my next and if I would like to complete the whole set. If this is something you would like to see let me know. If you have any tips or ideas, leave a comment below.
I was happy with the old universe nightstick until now This looks great and the gun mode is much better than the siege releases
ty. universe is a pretty good mold. And i definitely wanted this to be better than the battle masters.
Ty. They could, they just cheap. Artfire came with a masterpiece version and is really good. But they are cheap.
Dang man, that's really nice. With a little tweaking (and maybe a higher resolution print) it'd look pretty much like an official release. Well done!
You are the man, thanks for sharing. I am working on arms and legs for the battle masters as well and cannot get the arms to look half good. This will help me on my progress. I have the legs done and looking good. Thanks.
TY. a resin printer would look nicer, but honestly in hand you dont notice the layering like you do in photos. its the double edge sword of taking pics. You can get some nice shots, but you see every little imperfection. NP. I dont know if you know but the 2 different battle master molds use different ball joints. The decepticon one (blow pipe) uses 4mm while the autobot one (fire drive) uses 5mm. sucks they didnt use one size for all.
I am aware and annoyed at that fact. Why not keep everything uniform? I too hated that the Takara TM line had the targetmasters with knees while Siege were left without them.
B.E.R.T.: Block Enhanced Robotic Trooper. Haha. Great job! I’m going to have to give these guys a go. I’d love to come up with a transforming figure of my own some day. Thanks for sharing this with everyone!
please let me know how it goes. I was having a hell of a time with my black filament. the red went perfect, silver left the ball joints loose which i adjusted for and black was just problematic.
Thank you!! I have scratch built hairsplitter and Heater using a file included with a tip top .stl file. This is pretty much where my thought processes were headed next! I'll print these out and play around soon Thank you!!!
