I\'m really curious to see the response to this movie.  Bumblebee did better than the Bay films, but it seems people still have a bad taste left in their mouths from Transformers.  This is an offical reboot, or are they continuing the Bayverse?

Regarding Lorenzo, is this really proof that he's gone? To me a single article lacking his name barely even seems like evidence. It could mean something, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high unless every future article starts lacking his name. It could just be an oversight or the author wanting to prioritize the other studios.

I would absolutely love it if he composed the score for a Transformers movie. The Mandalorian's score might very well be the best musical score in recent years. At least in terms of mainstream stuff. I feel like we just don't get stuff that memorable anymore. I always catch myself humming Mando's theme.

Me neither. To me he mostly just comes across as a typical out-of-touch Hollywood producer who says some silly stuff. But I hardly think he's some destroyer of Transformers like a lot of people make him out to be.

Like, most of the stuff people criticize him for is either wildly exaggerated, or is totally understandable from his perspective. Like, I've never seen proof that he tried to sabotage Peter Cullen's audition. That gets parroted a lot, but it seems to be a rumor that grew from the fact that he was simply in favor of having a celebrity voice actor for Optimus. Which is totally fair, considering his main concern isn't appeasing fans, but making sure the movie brings in a wide audience. Lorenzo didn't have the hindsight we do now in 2005 or 2006.

Same with the whole "an Optimus movie wouldn't work" thing. I don't blame him for feeling that way at all. I think not wanting to do a movie about a generally stoic and serious character is totally fair, especially when there are tons of other ideas that would be safer bets. Its like getting mad at your friend for wanting to go bowling instead of skydiving...when you won't even be going skydiving yourself. It's easy to be an armchair producer and pitch ideas on a forum, but things change when its your money and job on the line.

And I think it's totally fair to disagree with Lorenzo's decisions. I'm not saying people have to blindly trust him. Obviously he ended up being wrong about Cullen. And he clearly doesn't always know what he's talking about. I just wish people would attempt to see things from his perspective before acting like he's death to Transformers. It's not his job to think like a fan, it's his job to think like a movie producer.

That's the magic of having writers who can only think of things in human-centric terms and forget that they're literally supposed to be writing about ALIEN robots. Don't forget all the human-superiority, human politics and human talking-down-to-giant-alien-robots.

I used to be “no humans” myself but I grew out of it. If the setting is solely on Cybertron or something, like Beast Machines, or a unique setting like Beast Wars on prehistoric earth, or even MTMTE set entirely in Transformer space, I understand. But we should hopefully still have scale and not write it to where they’re basically people in Transformers costumes. MTMTE could still do that from time to time even after Season 1, I think, but definitely not enough. Something like how in TFP, the cortical psychic patch worked like an HDMI cord. Something really only the robots could pull off that was alien to us but still understandable.

I still feel like the Bumblebee movie was the right direction to take Transformers into. I’d like to see them build up to a proper spectacle movie like 2007 again with smaller films. Bumblebee was a good humble start, the heist movie aka Transformers: Ant-Man, apparently a Beast Wars movie, an animated Cybertron prequel. These all are or sound smaller than a world ending event like... well, all five Bay films.

    Yeah..... that was...... hm....

I do hope they don't shove it in our face tho. In general I'm not going into a transformers movie for anything other than Transformers stories. They can get across those larger issues in their own movies.

Or these issues can be brought to more people so further awareness can be spread in a way that can still provide a good story, and given that stories have been written about the oppression of others within the franchise, I think it'll fit in just fine.
A Black or Hispanic actor doesn't and shouldn't immediately mean that some agenda is going to be pushed and what's the harm if it does.

also, saying "their own movies" makes ya seem kinda like a racist dick :/

Ugh, dissapointing casting for me. I wish Kiki Layne got the role.

Pretty sure he got paid and his name was in the credits like Bay because of Contracts but the content tells us he had nothing to do with it

He may have had final say over certain aspects of the movies, at least that’s what’s been implied for years.

There's nothing 'racist dick' about what he said. It's first and foremost a movie about alien robots, you can't insert more things unrelated to them without diluting the core gist of the story. For one example, "too many humans" was a core criticism of the original 2007 movie.

Here we are, where fans wanting the hobby to be apolitical escapism get called 'racist dicks'.

"what's the harm if it does" is not a good way to conclude an argument.

Yes, I'm racist for suggesting transformers stays about transformers (you know, the entire season we are on this fucking site?) and that people can make way more impactful movies when they are fully developing their own movies exploring those issues. Fuck off with that Twitter nutjob shit.

What does having POC have to do with a casting announcements? It’s not like actual sentient robots are getting casted and acting in the movie.

It'd be nice if a fully-transformer movie was made without humans. But that aside, what DOES that have to do with my argument? I was criticizing the flip-flop of the "further awareness can be spread - isn't going to push an agenda, and what's the harm if it does" context.
