It is indeed higher than most folks, if only modestly so.

Is there a very fast ELI5 because when I google it I see shit about blockchain and I don't really get it. We can keep it short or take it to PM if you prefer.

I agree. There is a middle ground between the extremes, and between the fact that they are at heart a toy company and actually have done a lot to try and give fans and long time collectors what they want while still doing what it takes to be successful on the business side of things, I think Hasbro has done alright. Not perfect, plenty of room for improvement, but at the very least I think we can at least believe that those guys you see on the live streams really do care about the brands and do want fans to actually enjoy the products that they put out there.

My god I'm late but holy shit y'all complaining about costs? In a fandom where all we do is purchase and consume product!?! a $3 incrrease in price for the deluxes would increase your overall spending by $48 only if you bought all 16 main line deluxes in a year. At that point when you're already spending $320 on 16 figures and $48 extra is too much then you really need to reconsider if you can afford this hobby. Not poor shaming but holy fuck $48 is nothing compared to how much y'all shell out in figures a year.

    Rant done.

Shut up, purchase and consume product. Buy toy, buy multiple of the same toy. If any of them break, don't return it for a refund, buy a fucking other one.

    Purchase. Consume. Repeat.

Satirical sarcasm, still think that complaining over a $3 hike is irrelevant, people are still gonna buy figures anyway.

Petroleum prices up for some reason. Petroleum is used in plastic.

    Right on the bullseye!

Hate to do the tangential stuff but to make it less controversial, supply and demand. If supply is made scarce prices go up. If the "powers that be" push for policies that make petrol more expensive to "save the environment" then expect consequences to the consumer.

If I have any complaints with Hb, it's the distribution issues. Even before C19, they still have a long way to improve it! Reason why I used to and still do go by the JP order route? At least I'm assured I can secure the figs I want. Amazon, maybe due to C19 was a more hit and miss last year...............

Its 3$ this year, then another 2$ in a year or two, and then another and then another. again, in 10 years, deluxes have doubled in cost.

Sooo by that logic, Hasbro can increase figures by $3 every few years and fans are not allowed to bitch that deluxes are over $40 each eventually?

The fact is, every single person has a point of deciding when something costs too much and they will refuse to buy it. You might have no problem paying $30 for a deluxe but there a many others that will not. Hasbro can give any reason they want to on the costs (labor, transportation, materials) but it won't change the mind of a customer to buy it or not.

Eventually, Hasbro is going to get some big rude awakening when they found they've priced themselves right out of business. Items priced so high that the amount of people willing to pay the full price is well below it once was. Most collectors have either dropped out of collecting or will only pick up things on clearances that brings the prices down to what they are willing to spend. This of course will send a message to stores that these toys just aren't profitable anymore so they won't carry them.

That's the risk Hb has to take then. Lose customers. Btw, we, the mature customers with disposable income make up less than 10% of their target demographic. Majority are the screeming kids who luv their yellow Bumblebee. Will they really miss us if we walk away?

    Inflation is a thing.

Car robots were roughly $10 in 1984, which would be $25 today.

Edit: To avoid repetition, let me add this

    Median income 1984: $26,430, or $67,379.20 today.

    Median income 2020: $78,500

The morbid curiosity in me would be genuinely curious to see the outcome of most adult collectors just ditching the franchise and moving onto something else. There would definitely be SOME impact, but whether or not Hasbro would notice or care is what I'm unsure about.

Obviously despite how critical I am of the franchise these days + Hasbro's decisions I'd rather they improved instead of stagnate, but I wouldn't exactly be upset if they went under at some point since I've mostly become numb to this kind of thing after seeing so many things I am passionate and care about be ruined, co-opted and otherwise become shit through various means.

    This too.

Plastic crack dealers know how to control their junkies:ev: ! From lessons learned, when they broke the $300 level for MP-44 means that yup, the adult market is there to stay!

I don't think we're anywhere near that point yet, but if that's going to happen then so be it.
