From my understanding, it is treating jpegs and mp4 files as if they were real paintings you could buy at an auction.


So lets say Hasbro sells you this image for $50.


Congrats. You own that image, and it can be “traced back to you.” But other people can still post it, and you can’t do anything with it. You can’t sell it, and you can’t stop other people from owning it.


You paid $50 for a literal fucking jpeg of a character you do not legally own, and can’t do anything with. But other people can still post it and you can’t do anything about it.
